Jasmine's plan for Angelus?

^I actually like that idea a lot.

I think the only reason I don't like Season 4 is because of Cordelia's fate. I'm fine with her being evil, but then she just goes comatose and disappears. Cordy is my favorite character from the entire Buffyverse, and I thought she deserved better.

Granted, the episode where she returns in Season 5 was definitely one of the best of the series. And while it sucks that she died, at least they gave her a decent send-off.

I think I read somewhere that in addition to the actress getting pregnant there was also a drug problem and she was on her way off the show no matter what. Apparently this is why she abruptly disappears for several episodes in the middle of S3. But I could be wrong.

I heard this too, but never got any confirmation on it, and she looked healthy both before and after that time. Sad but true of Hollywood that certain unauthorized changes to her hairstyle are at least as likely to be responsible for her being temporarily written out.

1) Before I learned about Jasmine, I figured she pulled a Daniel Jackson and got kicked out of the Higher Planes when she interfered in the Lower Planes in the episode with the casino.
A nice subconscious set-up for "Cordelia" interfering in everyone's life durin the whole rest of the reason.

2) Jasmine knew that it would take some kind of catalyst to awaken her, so she wiped Cordelia's memories knowing that a spell of some kind would do the trick.
And notice the brief moment when Cordelia shouts "No!" and stamps on the bottle? That was real real Cordy, knowing that the spell would release Jasmine and trying to stop it.

The Daneel theory of Cordy's personality influencing the actions is interesting, but sure reflects badly on supposedly true-hearted Cordy.
We also have Jasmine, who wants peace on earth and happiness for everyone, but is completely ruthless and will do whatever it takes to achieve her goals, no matter who gets hurt along the way. I think it was this ruthlessness that was driving possessed Cordy to do the things she did.
I agree here - I see it as Cordy being possessed, but Jasmine "as herself" wasn't actualised yet. Jasmine's motivations were there controlling Cordy, but not her personality. Cordy didn't have the magic peace powers that Jasmine did, so Cordy had to achieve those goals with whatever means were at hand.

I remember that too - at least the season 3 part. But to their credit, they made it a virtue again, by using Cordy's absence in season 3 to further Wesley's isolation and drive him further into the kidnap-Connor plot.

I remember reading about that too. What I heard was that the producers gave her some time off so that she could deal with some sort of "personal problem", which I took as code for a drug problem. I was just guessing, but I heard rumours to that effect in other places, so perhaps there was something to them. But I guess we won't know until we hear it from Carpenter herself (or until someone else who worked on the show writes a tell-all memoir ;)).

Either way, it appears she got her life back on track, so kudos to her.
