January Challenge: Myriads and Myriads

Last month, we had a challenge that asked us to write a story based around a particular 'what-if' - What if the Prophets had failed to stop the Dominion fleet from exiting the wormhole?

However, as many of the entries that unfortunately couldn't be accepted in last month's challenge showed, there are myriads and myriads of alternate universes out there, with myriads and myriads of permutations of our beloved characters.

This month's challenge, then, is to write a story about one of those myriads of universes. A huge, big, vast what-if. Any change to the standard timeline accepted, as small or as massive as you want it. Vague enough for you?

Word limit 5000 words, entries due by midnight 31st January 2010.

One question, using Canon characters, FanFic original characters, a combination of both, or even completely original characters just for the mirror story? Are all of the above acceptable? IF not which ones are?

^As long as it's Star Trek, whatever characters you like I am guessing. Sarine is giving a lot of freedom on this one.

Me, I am gonna do a time travel story about Spock and a vengeful romulan. They will go back in time and meet young Kirk and the rest of the Enterprise crew.

Dulak, all of the above are acceptable. Like you said, a huge blank slate. It has to be based on a what-if, alternate history idea however.

As to the time zone question, I guess we'll go with my time-zone so GMT + 1
