Janeway's Shorter 'Do

firecrackerrrr

Lieutenant Commander
Red Shirt
I know Janeway's hair is a subject that has been covered to death most likely (I admit I haven't done a search, I hate bringing up super old threads) but is there anyone here who loves Janeway's shorter hair (think Year of Hell)?

It's more modern and slightly androgynous. I never liked Janeway's long hair (though the space bun amuses me to no end so I have an affection for it). I must say I was a bit disappointed when her hair started growing in season 5 :guffaw:

I even liked her Living Witness super short hair (just wish it had been styled a bit differently). During my rewatch of Voyager, Living Witness wasn't playing well on the DVD (skipping, etc) so I had to wait till now to watch it. The actual fever I have aside, she gave me a different kind of fever when watching this  (sorry, tmi)

ETA: I should add, the short 'do I meant was only in season 4. It was longer as of season 5 and though it was better than her hair in seasons 1-3, my favourite remains the 'do she sported in 4. Sexy mama!

I don't mean to hijack this or anything, but I recently rewatched "Caretaker" and something kinda trivial's been bugging me. I know they reshot a load of scenes because the network suits were upset she let her hair down (IIRC they were concerned she spent more time on her hair than on running the ship:lol:), but I noticed she's wearing a very obvious hairpiece in some shots, wheras she's got her natural hair in others. Did she have a bun failure or something?

Oh, and I prefer her hair down. I'm a guy, so all I pretty much notice is bun/no bun. Sorry.

"Warning! Bun failure eminent in five, four, three, two...."

Sorry, I just couldn't resist.

I thought Janeway looked better with shorter hair.

LOVED the short hair in season 4. Season 5 was ok too. By season 7 was too much "helmet hair," not my favorite, made her look a bit older (but still decent, of course).

HELMET HAIR :guffaw: I was trying to find a good description for S7 hair and I couldn't really find the proper words. Perfection. It shall be noted and mentioned on my next Trek Day (something I organize once a week where a bunch of Trekkies from campus come over and we watch ST)

I don't really care for the style of her hair in Year of Hell, but I prefer it to her bun. I like the length and style of her hair in Season 7 the best.

Lol, thanks for the note, just to clarify, I have read the phrase "helmet hair" for the season 7 'do somewhere else, so didn't create it, just repeating!!

I know what they mean by that. I've heard the term before. I just find it hilarious. It's the perfect description for the S7 hair.

The bob was much more captainlike. She should have worn the bob while on duty and let her hair down while off.

I loved her hair in YOH. I also loved how disheveled it was. Season 5 and 6 were my favs plus Workforce 'Do. I really like them all however, I am not picky :)

IIRC, Genevieve Bujold's Elizabeth Janeway had short hair. I wonder why they made the change when they recast the role?

Janeway without the short hair is like Riker without the beard. They just looks weird now after watching the later seasons of theirs shows.

Part of the reason they went with the bun, I seem to remember KM saying, that they wanted to get a little more height on KJ, since KM was kind of short compared to the taller men surrounding her, and they didn't want the woman captain to appear too diminutive. (And the bun would have been ok w/ me except that some of the wigs didn't seem too natural, lol.)

I've never given it much thought, to be honest (I never looked at her in that way ;)), but I'd say it's my favorite hairstyle.

It even looks kind of bad-ass (in a good way), come to think of it. I can see her doing action hero type stuff with that haircut (think "Macrocosm") ;)

I like her hair in the above photo. The waves in it are so much better than the straight helmet style. Geez, that last style made her so old.

My favorite is from “Future’s End,” with its middling length. Pulled back but still sassy with a ponytail.

OT: Chak looks pretty good in the background of that photo. Action-y and sweaty. Yum.

I'm not sure how popular of an opinion this is, but I really wish she kept the pony tail. It was her best look.

I actually liked her long hair-- you got the sense that there was an element of the closet romantic in her. When she cut it-- even though it looked great-- it seemed like she gave up on her dreams.

And I liked the fact that it was pinned up; didn't like the fact that most of the time it looked like it required a Victorian lady's maid to maintain.
