Janeway's locks...short or long?

I took me ages to figure out how my scanner works, but here it is:

Oh I am super glad about that. Not that she wouldn't look good with it, because she would. But her hair has been quite traditional for a long time and I'm wowed by the big change.

I'm wondering, in order for hair to stand up like this I assume you need to have either naturally wavy hair or use a lot of product. I can't imagine my hair springing up in all different directions if I cut it this short, most likely it would hang limply, flatly and other not nice adjectives. So I think it's cut it, dye it, product it into tufts for KM.

Actually my hair started to stand up (without the use of products) 4 months ago, when it was cut the last time. For no obvious reason. It never did it before. And it was cut before! I never had to fight with strands going their own ways before. Its ridicolous! Its not even that short, but shoulder length.
