Janeway's blunder in Scorpion

Gotham Central

Vice Admiral
Admiral
One of the mistakes that I think that Janeway made in Scorpion was her fairly weak demand that the Borg escort Voyager across their space. It seems to me that if you're willing to negotiate with a genocidal species, you should make big demands. Why not demand that they send Voyager home? They know that the Borg are perfectly capable of crossing the entire galaxy fairly quickly. They could have asked to be sent home to the alpha quadrant if not directly to Earth.

maybe she thought they might try assimilate Earth again

I always felt that the director missed out when Janeway made here "appeal to the devil" speech on the holodeck, not showing a reaction shot of DaVinci.

She knew the Borg were just going to backstab them all along, so if she did so the odds were that they'd just turn on them anyways, take them somewhere else to fool them before assimilating them, or just attack Earth again once they were in the general area.

She never expected them to hold up any deal, so there's little point in making demands when you know they'll never follow through on anything.

Same reason she didn't take up Q's offer, she couldn't trust him to not just dump off their omnipotent baby on her and the crew before teleporting away with a "Gotcha, sucker!"

Do you really need more of an explanation than "that would have ended the series", or "the producers wanted to keep Voyager in the unknown"?

Going Home?

"We want you to escort us at regular warp to the other side of your space, it will only take 10 years."

Compared to

"We want you to tow us/transport us inside a massive Cube at Transwarp speed to the other side of your space which would take about 4 minutes."

Janeway couldn't play the short game, gods forbid the end game.

Well, just because Janeway makes a deal doesn't mean the Borg would have to follow through with it.

If Janeway returned home by season 5 DS9, they could won the Dominon War half way through the that same season, if the Federation were able to fire off transwarp torpedoes from earth that could hit targets in Dominon with precision, with in hours, that the Dominon didn't have a defense against. Torfuckingpedos that exit transwarpspace below planetary shields or inside starships...

Voyager getting home early would have screwed over DS9 as well.

...and she'd be known as the Captain that welcomed the Borg to assimilate Earth.

How would Janeway warn Earth the Borg were coming and bringing them home? That would be a HUGE tactical error on her part.

Even if the Borg were honourable and did everything they said they would, and as a bonus took Voyager home...

No one on Earth, would trust Janeway, her crew or her ship.

They'd all be locked up in solitary for 10 years, suffering through full body cavity searches EVERY DAY, their blood replaced twice a week, and Voyager would be driven into the sun to be disposed of as completely as possible because...

The Trojans were morons.

True. Janeway with her science track background before switching to command if nothing else set her up to always think a few moves ahead. We saw this in her actions with as well. She's a schemer, lol. If her and Sisko ever tag teamed, let's just say, I hope I'd be on their side!
