Janeway v. Janeway

In Endgame, if Janeway could go back in time and meet with her younger self, why didn't she meet herself earlier and prevent Voyager from being lost in the Delta Quadrant to start with?

She went back to save three people she loved: Seven, Chakotay and Tuvok. Go back to the very start, and Seven's condemned to live out eternity as a Borg drone.

Let's not bring sensible ideas into this. :p

As others have pointed out it was to save Seven, Tuvok and Chakotay.

I mean she didn't even bother going back in time even a few weeks earlier to save Carey.

Sigh.

If she prevented her younger self from even going to the DQ in the first place, then TUVOK and all the Maquis would have been stuck in the DQ.

The older Janeway LIED to the younger Janeway for a reason, because she really did remember how self righteous her younger self was... that was why she transported to coordinates JUST (?) 3 days after Voyager left the nebula.

It gave the Captain enough time to verify who the Admiral was, and to outfit Voyager for its battle with the Borg, but NOT enough time to wonder what the Admiral was up to.

The mere fact that the Captain LEFT the nebula with victory in her grasp, tells us the Admiral was right to worry.

Had she come back 4 weeks earlier to save Joe Carey, then not only would the Captain have time to worry about this unseen nebula but also time to worry about this futuristic self. Heck it also would have given the Borg time to notice Voyager was running around with new enhancements, and might have made them a target long before they reached the nebula. With enough exposure, the Borg would have probably found a way around the advancements and assimilated everyone anyway.

Then the complaint heard around the bbs would have been... "WHY did Janeway's God complex have to extend so far that it wasn't enough to rescue Voyager, but she had to rescue Voyager and Joe Carey too?"

As it was, Admiral Janeway died rescuing her three favorites AND 22 other nameless souls who were destined to die on the way home.

Strike that.

Admiral Janeway, who's life was consumed with the idea of rescuing her ship and her loves... died never knowing if she actually succeeded.

WE know she did, and like Captain Janeway I smile sadly and dip my head to thank her for her sacrifice and know that this woman paid the ultimate price for her sin of changing time to save her friends.

"Thank-you, Admiral Janeway."

True, but not for long. Chakotay and the rest of the Maquis would have used it to get home instead of blowing it. Or at least used something as practical as a timer if they did blow it.

That's speculation of course, but really moot to the discussion.

More speculation, the Borg adapt to weapons by experience and assimilation, not examination though. So seeing Voyager's enhancements aren't going to do much. Carey really isn't the issue it's everyone who died from Caretaker to Endgame on Voyager.

If she's going to have a God complex, use it correctly and not selfishly. What about Cavitt, that Doctor, the Chief Engineer and everyone else who died so the Maquis could convienently replace? What about people like Hogan? Ballard? A lotta people died in Voyager. They'd all be saved if she scrubbed the mission from the start.

Yes, she died to change the timeline into her ideal form of it. Not for the greater good. If she was worried about saving lives, she would've stopped Voyager from being trapped. Yes that would cost Seven her freedom, but 30+ people is a small price for that.

Yes, but Tuvok was already Janeway's security officer, so all she had to tell Tuvok was to avoid such and such place, so that the Maquis wouldn't be chased into the badlands.

We also had in previous season such as S1 "Eye of the Needle" basically saying to the Romulan that he couldn't interfer with Voyager's mission by trying to get starfleet to scrub it, due to the impact that they had had.

Fast forward seven or so years later, and despite the impact Voyager would have had during the 16 or so years it would have taken to come home in the orginal timeline. It's changed to who cares about the impact we had.

Come on, you actually expect consistency and continuity from Voyager's writers? Go to DS9 if you want crap like that. :p

^The same DS9 where Quark can't decide if gold is worthless or valuable? Lets face it, the whole Trekverse can't keep their stories stright to save their lives. :)

True enough, but DS9 in my humble opinion was written well enough you could overlook such gaffes.

I swear Paramount should just have a random Trek fan on set to proof read any script to point out any glaringly stupid errors. :p

also consider that the janeway that sacrifised herself in endgame was from a different timeline you hear the queen say if voyager is destroyed the janeway2 (from the future) would not exist to kill her but if she did not exist then voyager would not be back in the nebula trying to get home meaniing that janeway2 is alive meaning she comes back to get janeway to back and it starts again(if ya see where imcoming from). But janeway1 gets back to the alpha quadrant meaning janeway1 will not go back to get voyager back into the nebula meaning janeway2 has changed time meaning she did not come back to hep them meaning the borg queen is still alive meaning the virus does not infect the collective meaning the borg are better equipped to fight voyager and janeway1 and potentially defended and destroyed them. - as janeway said timetravel possibilities and consequences gives her a headache
