James Van Der Beek Dead at 48

How unfair and undeserved (and he's father of six, the youngest being a toddler).

And I do think cancer has accelerated amongst youngish Americans in their 30s and 40s....

Varsity Blues is now an officially "cursed" production like Babylon 5 (when many of the male leads are already f--king dead at extremely young ages before 50, with one supporting actor going mysteriously missing aged 18).

Dawson's Creek was what put him on the map, but I'm most familiar with James Van Der Beek's voice over role in the 2nd English dub of Laputa: Castle In The Sky:

When I hear the term "cursed project," the Glee show and the movie Poltergeist come to mind.

48 is definitely way too young to go. Somehow this is hitting me harder than your typical celebrity death, both because he was only a few years my senior, but also because I loved him in Dawson’s Creek. I very much identified with Dawson when I watched that show and I loved how sensitive and in tune with his emotions he was written and portrayed. Haven’t given it a rewatch in years and I wonder if it still speaks to me. It definitely felt like a spiritual successor to something like The Breakfast Club.

But I’m also happy to see people mentioning other projects he starred in. Will definitely make an effort to give them a watch.

Well all three male leads of Variety Blues are now dead and all died in their relatively youthful prime (by today's standards) so a very unfortunate or odd co-incidence (another similarly cursed move is 2008's Soul Men with both of Samuel L. Jackson's main co-stars kicking the bucket at relatively young ages near simultaneously).

Four. Not one of the leads, but Joe Pichler (the younger Moxon brother) went missing in 2006 at the age of 18 and is presumed dead. Might've been suicide but no one knows.

I alluded to Joe Pichler going missing, presumed dead (most likely accident or suicide).
