James SPader joins The Office cast

Here's a link to the news story.

Dammit! I was really hoping that Donna from DW would get the part. Would have love to have seen her interact with the cast. Spader's character just seems redundant with Dwight still around.

My hunch was that it'd be Spader. His character got the most screen time in that episode. It'll be interesting to see where they take this.

Well, I think they wanted Catherine Tate, but couldn't work the scheduling out. I like Spader so if I still watched The Office, this would be cool.

Watched 2 seasons of just shoot me yesterday.

Crosswire in my brain thought that David Spade was James Spader.

I psychically wretched at the thought of David Spade.

What I was reading is Spader is replacing Kathy Bates's character as CEO. I'm not sure if that means he's also manager of the office or if there's a possibility of one of the others taking over THAT role. I doubt they'd make such a big deal about this if he was just guest starring in a handful of episodes, though, so I'm guessing he is the new Michael Scott.

Honestly...I was hoping they'd promote from within and pull a switcheroo by making Jim manager despite not having interviewed (he sure SHOWED management abilities during the interview process, and he's the only one with actual experience managing the whole office even if he did a horrible job at it). It would also fit...in a way with following the plot of the UK Office, except that Dwight would have to be manager and I don't think anyone wants that again. Darryl would be an interesting option as well, his attitude being so...opposite of Michael's when it comes to management. I guess either is still a possibility if Spader is only the CEO who visits periodically.

His character was just an asshole, not funny... so I hope he only occasionally appears as the distant hardass not the day to day boss. That doesn't work over the long term, it's too much reality for the show, like when Idris Elba was the boss for that stretch of episodes.

Cool, I really liked his character. I suspect he'll be one of those micro-managing types who's always hanging around the office and getting under the nerves of the new manager.

The current plot being tossed around is that he's hired as the regional manager, then does his mind voodoo and convinces Kathy Bates to step down and install him in her place, which would lead to Dwight, Andy or Jim becoming the manager.

Spader's an ... interesting choice. He was pretty funny in the finale, but that character has the potential to become one-note and rather annoying, and to do so quickly.

Darn, I really didn't like his character in the finale. It was funny momentarily, but quickly became annoying. I hope he isn't the full time manager from here on out.

I didn't find his character at all funny in the finale. But then again, most of the interviewees weren't that great.

I guess Jim is the obvious choice to take over as manager of the branch, but it might just be treading over the same old stuff so I'm wondering whether they'll go in another direction, maybe Andy (although I'd prefer Daryl).

but the show needs a disruptive manager.

Some one to turn a sane day at work into quite the opposite, but in a different way.

I didn't see Spade's character as an asshole. He was superman. The thought that he was just scouting out the business before he desposes Jo is interesting but he's just so overqualified that I'm thinking that the should should be more like the Brain and Pinky rather than pinky and the Brain...

Jim Carey looked old.

Not movie star old, but insurance saleman with 3 kids old.

I've always been a huge fan of Spader and thought he was by far the best thing about last season's finale. I'm excited for this, even if I think the show should be put out to pasture anyway.

When Spader took over the lead in The Practice, it led to Boston Legal, so IMHO - admittedly not being a regular viewer, my HO probably doesn't count for much - this is a good thing.

Glad I'm not the only one this happens to. I get those two names crossed around in my head all the time.

And it could be a good change. If he throws a little Alan Shore into the mix it could be quite funny.

spader was the only reason I watched just shoot me. all so had a crush on magazine owner's daughter can't remmber her name. we will see if spader can save the office.
