James, how could you ever get involved with a nut like Janice Lester?

Re: James, how could you ever get involved with a nut like Janice Lest

I have dated many a woman who started out as very sweet and awesome and turned into the psychobitch from hell!! We've all had one or two in our lives. I can imagine Kirk did too. He also seems to be a "love 'em, leave 'em" kind of guy, driven more by his career than the need to settle down with some babe and make little Jimmies. I can see some disgruntled ex-girlfriend becoming a vengeful psychopath. I am surprised Kirk didn't have more of them and I thought this was portrayed perfectly in this episode.

I always thought this episode would have played better if they had brought back Yoeman Rand as the disgruntled lover. The sexual tension was there. Bad Kirk did go to her cabin first(after getting the brandy from sickbay!) At the end of the episode, even Spock was fueling this. She made reference to always trying to get him to look at her legs in 'Miri'. And after playing a prominent roll in several episodes, she was gone! Just like that we never saw, or heard from her again, or got an explanation of where she went. (and yes, I know the real reasons) A lot of first runners were probably wondering each week if the hot blonde would be back. They could have tied up the loose ends, and made for a good trial scene. And is it just coincidence that both were named Janice?

I always thought Dr. Coleman got off pretty light in this episode. He conspired with Janice to murder the research team on Camus, but it seems like he's going to be allowed to be the doctor who takes care of her at the end of the episode. Does this seem right? Shouldn't he be put up on murder charges, or at least adjudged insane himself?

You know how it goes by then: they don't punish people, they cure them. He and Janis were both destined for the same rehab, is my guess. She was going to need a friend, and he wanted to take care of her.

She wasn't psychobitch because of Kirk, she was psychobitch because she couldn't become a Captain.

How?

She has a pulse and a vagina - that's enough for Jimbo!
