From NY Daily News:
The character actor is set to get a starring role as the replacement for outgoing host Craig Ferguson, joining 'Late Show' incoming host Stephen Colbert in the new-look CBS late night lineup.
The Wrap.com first reported the latest twist in the network’s changing late night landscape Tuesday.
Reps for Corden and CBS declined to comment.
Corden stars in Disney's “Into the Woods” and can currently be seen alongside Keira Knightley in “Begin Again.” He also starred in 2011’s “The Three Musketeers.”
The Mail Online:
His potential appointment has not been confirmed by either the network CBS or Corden's representatives.
Corden, 35, was seen on BBC1 earlier this year interviewing Gary Barlow for a documentary, and he also fronts the Sky sporting panel show A League Of Their Own, which will run for at least another three years under a new deal.
The co-writer and star of Gavin And Stacey is currently appearing alongside Keira Knightley and Mark Ruffalo in the film Begin Again, and will soon be seen in the cast of a big screen version of Broadway musical Into The Woods, which also stars Meryl Streep and Johnny Depp.
Corden's US profile was boosted when he won a Tony Award in 2012 for best leading actor in a play for his starring role in One Man Two Guvnors, which transferred to New York from the West End.
Ferguson's decision to exit the series came in the wake of another chat host David Letterman announcing he was retiring from his programme The Late Show.
I am hoping this isn't true. I have nothing against Mr. Corden but I've never felt him to be very personable or entertaining as an individual. He seems rather good as a character actor, but as a stand-up? I'm not terribly enthused. I guess time will tell. I just can't imagine anyone coming close to the awesomeness of Craig Ferguson.

I read about this the other day. I honestly can't see why they're doing this. I don't think he is funny, nor can I see how he would be a draw to American audiences.

Ooooooh that clip was horrendously awkward. I love Sir Pat but that's just the wrong crowd for him, clearly.

And Corden? I just--I will never get the appeal. Never. I'm sure he'll rake in viewers though like he bafflingly seems to.

James Corden.

Wow. What the fuck was going on there? :wtf: Like, I'm embarrassed for both of them. Ugh.

When I first heard the announcement, my first thought: really, someone else from the UK? What the hell?

And again, another white guy.

CBS could consider this guy for host of The Late Show, if they wanted somebody of color to be the host...

Is this show a big deal in the US?
Not really. Though its my favorite late night talk show.

It's an acquired taste and runs towards anarchy, absurdity and deconstruction. Though that's due to Craig Ferguson. Corden would have to place his own stamp on it.

Craig was awesome and it sucks he' leaving as now I have nothing to watch next year when I can't sleep.

Ferguson's show attracts a respectable audience but is not a huge hit. It does attract people who otherwise would not watch late night talk shows. His guests are less huge stars (though he had had Robert Downey Jr.), and more TV actors suplamented by comedians, musical acts, and authors you're just not going to see on another show.

Craig is also a huge nerd and Doctor Who fan, so that helps. He also does meaningful monologs about the death of his dad and when Brittany Spears was doing drugs he talked about his personal struggles.

He has had guests on that you would see else where, he doesn't always go for the fake laughs, he goes for heart and fun mixed in with seriousness if need be.

I rather enjoyed the show he did with Stephen Fry where it was just the two of them (in homage to Tom Snyder's version of the show.)

I will miss him. Hopefully he reinvents the genre of game shows. :)

I remember seeing some of his interview with Archbishop Desmond Tutu. Craig won a Peabody for that.
