James Clyne's Concept art for Star Trek (2009)

Re: Concept art from ST(2009)

Is there ANY chance that we'll see an Art of Star Trek book?

If there's on thing I LOVE about sci-fi it's conceptual art.
Lynn, I'm with ya - I'd pick it up in a nanosecond if one came out!
And I would buy it even faster than that! :p

Great stuff there! I love the drawings of the Kelvin bridge. Breathtakingly atmospheric stuff. :techman:

Oh, and I see James Clyne also worked on The Fountain. Well, that explains a lot. ;)

Re: Concept art from ST(2009)

Personally, the Kelvin bridge looks like something out of Today's submarines, not something that's supposed to float in space a few hundred years from now. :D

And yet no one has any problems with the concrete floors, suspended light fixtures, steel support beams and tiny pipes with rotating knobs for the engineering set?
I have problems with it...

Probably because the TOS Engineering set had concrete floors and tiny pipes with rotating knobs and the TMP set had exposed support beams. I swear, most of the complainers have never really watched TOS.

So, am I the only one who noticed the Miranda, the NX and TOS Constitution class ships in the wreckage above Vulcan? :shifty:

If you have me on "ignore", then yes... yes, you are.
I don't use the childish ignore function. What I wrote was just a pun on the number of posters who have come into this thread and reported what they have found in the picture as if they were the first ones. Yeah, maybe it was a bad pun. Sorry. :(

Oh, and by the way, has anyone noticed the Miranda, the NX and TOS Constitution class ships in the wreckage above Vulcan? I just discorvered them!

Damn pre-destination paradox.

I swear that earlier post about the NX saucer wreckage wasn't there yesterday when I checked...

Get me Dulmer and Lucksley!

Re: Concept art from ST(2009)

Did anyone else notice the Kelvin bridge pictures are labeled "Iowa_Bridge"
I wonder if they were originally going for Kirk being born on the Iowa instead of in Iowa...

Now that would have been an interesting twist...

That is interesting about Iowa. I guess they decided it would be too much.

So, who or what is Kelvin.

I think one of the writer's (or J.J.'s) relatives was named Kelvin. Plus, there's the Kelvin that came up with that temperature scale, and there are probably more.

And I agree, USS Iowa would have been too cutesy. The only way that would have worked would have been if nuKirk had not grown up in Iowa. (Which, come to think of it, I find somewhat appealing.)

Re: Concept art from ST(2009)

So much for "I'm from Iowa, I only work in outer space."

Again, that would only work for me if he didn't live in Iowa after. Too. Cutesy!

Re: Concept art from ST(2009)

Damn. I love concept art. But I also hate it, because it often looks cooler than the movie.

Dude, im with ya on that.

I studdied art for 8 years, i love concept art but, like you, hate it with a pssion as its almost always, 95% of the time, better than the final product/item.

The Kelvin, sorry 'USS Iowa' ;) bridge and the armada destruction are by far the most awe inspiring of the selection. The armada destruction has got hte NX-01 and the TOS enterprise being butchered. i find it fabulous that they have put the Connie in there.
