I'd have a bit more faith that JJ could capture the feel of the 60's if he actually had someone on staff who was alive in the 60's...

By that logic, I guess we should stop making moves set in the Old West or in Medieval times. You know, since nobody is around who was alive in those times to capture the feel.

^Should we refrain from pointing out that the film is set in a (fake) 23rd century, so needn't have anything to do with the '60s, or any other preexisting time period besides the one it's being made in, anyway?

I remember the 60's as being nothing but Naked Crotch's at my eye level:eek:,

...Cigarette/Pot Smoke everywhere:wtf:,

...and the start of being a Latch-Key-Kid.:vulcan:

Even without seeing the movie yet, I'll bet JJ & Gang have vastly improved upon that! :rommie:

no a sf must have someone born from that time period..

just boggled at the idea that a film must have people on staff from the time
period it is set in.

Gee, Rick Berman remembers the 1960s and he's sure familiar with the Franchise - I'm sure Trek fans would have been thrilled to have him as one of the core producing staff.

Quite fascinating to see the discussion go from a "James Cawley post on a blog" to "hairy pubes".

I'm not seeing the problem...

Well, that was the era of hairy pubes.

Dude, the last three million years save fifteen or so were the era of hairy pubes. We made do; don't be so effete.

All other things being equal, shaved is better - but all other things are never equal. ;)

I'd split the difference for a nice racetrack or landing strip.

You wouldn't if you'd been in your pre-puberty years, as I was...

In a "watching a disaster as it unfolds" sort of way, yes.

Since we seem to have settled the original topic somewhere fairly early on and began the slide toward more earthy matter shortly thereafter, (from which the thread seems rarely to have deviated since) perhaps it would be best if I just closed this here.
