James Cameron's Cleopatra in 3D!

Nothing's stopping people who don't like 3-d from watching it in 2-d. I mean, it's not like they've cancelled all 2-d showings for these movies, right?

Depending on where you live, yes. Empire Theatres in my town doesn't do 2D showings of films they're also showing in 3D, and plenty of other cinemas do likewise.

When a lot of people complain about 3D, it makes me think about the past.

Radio Listeners - "That darn TV will never catch on."
Movie Watchers - "No body wants Sound & Color."
TV Watchers - "Who's going to watch stuff on the internet."

Exactly.

For some reason, people have major problems with change.

But, I'm tired of seeing all the "Stupid Filler Kiddy Comedy in 3D" movies.
So don't watch them. I haven't watched a single "Stupid Filler Kiddy Comedy in 3D" movie and I'm not the least bit sick of them. Ignorance is bliss. ;)

Seriously, a crap film is a crap film no matter how many dimensions it's shown in. Just because it happens to be in 3D shouldn't reflect on 3D films as a whole anymore than bad 2D films--of which there are legion!

It just bugs me that every movie seems to be doing it and for no reason other than to just do it. They saw Avatar rake in 30 million quataloos because it was in 3D so now studios have "$" (or quataloo) signs in their eyes and are just ramming through whatever they can to make a buck.

At this stage in the came, I feel, that we're not at a point where every movie should be 3D, only just the ones that have "merit" to see in 3D and especially the ones that were made to be in 3D in the first place.

And I don't think the "changes in the past" argument completely washes. I'd like to see "evidence" that people complained about things like seeing the story, sound and color as all of that just sounds like the next logical step (and it could be done without the viewer having to wear special equipment.)

3D is the next logical step, movies like Avatar proved it can be done well and effectively. When the movie is made to be that way in the first place! But that's not why many studios right now are cranking out 3D movies. They're not doing it for the same reason movies started getting made in color or with sound. They're doing because they think 3D is the instant route to a billion-dollar movie.

That's the part that I don't like. If you're going to do it, do it right. What's pretty much being done now is not that someone is making a new movie in vibrant color and releasing The Wizard of Oz it's more like they're taking a shitty black and white movie and "colorizing" it and sticking it out there thinking color = money.

Aww come on. Like every movie uses surround sound, color or CGI to its full potential. This is the stupid CGI debate all over again.

Good thing is that in a year or so this will be over. Then they won't announce "New movie - in 3D", it will just be "new movie" again. Just like it happened all the time in the past "new movie - now in color", "now in stereo", "now in dolby digital surround", "THX remastered!" etc...

not really, but the stuff in the list above was a genuine improvement over the things they had, 3D is not a genuine improvement over normal films. and secondly, the vast majority of films it has been used on so far it has done nothing more than make them look poor.

There's a motel up the road that's still advertising "Color TV!!"

Makes me wonder how long that sign has been there . . . .

The big difference is that none of those require me to wear glasses that don't fit on my head and that give me a pounding headache.

Make 3D work without glasses, and I'm there! Until then, I will stick with my 2D.

Ditto. The glasses don't give me a headache but they do detract from the "viewing experience" I'd say it'd be analogous to having to wear headphones or something when sound came out.

I'm too "aware" I'm wearing the glasses and it just becomes a bit of a pain and distraction to have them on on top of my regular glasses. I don't get headaches or anything like that from them but I'm just too aware they're there.

I can't wait for you guys to complain about Holograms when they finally arrive. "I hate holograms, they have these blue lines and static and this mean looking dude in a robe where you can't see his face is on all the time."

Does the mean-looking dude give me a throbbing headache?

I saw Avatar in 3D, and I enjoyed it immensely. I thought the 3D effect was fantastic. However, after sitting for 3 hours with awkward glasses on my face, my head was pounding. That's my main problem with 3D.

That's exactly what it's like.

Movies like this are going to be made in 3D because that's where the money will be made in the future.

Some people get motion sickness when they ride in cars. That's unfortunate, because it's difficult to entirely avoid riding in cars.

That's the only real reason, isn't it, hidden behind all those other rather ridiculous arguments against 3D. It all boils down to "I DON'T WANT TO WEAR THESE STUPID GLASSES, WAAARGHALLLGH!"

I think it's a valid reason. Why should I be forced to feel discomfort and pain just to watch a movie? Even if you don't get headaches like I do, it's hard to pretend the glasses aren't there. They're incredibly distracting.

Now, if they made prescription 3D glasses that actually fit a person's face, we might be in business.

They are not distracting at all. That's all I can say about that. What kind of face do you have? Those glasses are enormous. I wear glasses, too, and I didn't have ANY problems.
Granted, the glasses could be a little more curved, but that's it.

Well, I guess a lot of it depends on the shape of your head and the shape of the glasses. I saw Avatar in two different theaters, and each one had their own glasses. One pair fit better than the other, but both were still very distracting. I was constantly having to adjust them because they were either pinching my nose, slipping off of my nose, or pinching the back of my head.

Sorry, but to me that just sounds like you're acting like a Baby there. Seriously. You're giving the same reasons like my nephew who recently learned that he needs to wear glasses. "Looks so stupid! Slips of my nose! Pinches! Itches! Ugly! Waaaah!"

I DO wear prescription glasses, though, and they don't bother me at all. The difference is they actually fit on my face! The 3D glasses at the theaters didn't fit, and they only had one size. There were children in the theater who had to spend the entire length of the movie holding the glasses up because they were too big for their heads.

Now, I had read about theaters that had different size glasses for their customers, but the two theaters I went to did not have that option. The 7-year olds had to wear the same size glasses I was wearing.

The glasses didn't fit, and they gave me a headache. I don't understand why this is so hard for you to get.
