James Cameron's Avatar Novel--anyone else excited?

Is there anyone else excited about this?
No! The movie had fantastic effects, but the story was nothing special and the world he created was boring. Earth is dirty and used up and super awesome aliens live in harmony with nature ... :ack: Seriosuly, that's all I learned about the Avatar universe, there's nothing that makes want to know more about the place.

If it were another movie I'd be interested, at least it would be nice to look at, but a novelization of a story that wasn't great in the first place, set in a universe that's just a space version of Dances with Wolves and Pocahontas? No, thanks.

^ I think he'd be an excellent choice as well...or KRAD or Greg Cox. I guess it will depend on how sales will do for the novelization...which i'm still not clear if it's a traditional novelization or a prequel since Cameron has stated both. As I said in my first post the first interview he gave on it last year was that it would be a novelization and he was waiting until the film was finished and out before concentrating on it. Now he has stated it's a prequel so who knows. I'm more interested in this than I was the movie.

^ Yeah that's what Cameron's been saying recently...a prequel that deals with Grace's time establishing the school, I think some Na'Vi cultural stuff.

I'd like to see a graphic novel or comic, not sure about a novel. (And that's not because I'm a dumb hick who can't handle reading a book, but just I think the world of smething like Avatar is better suited to a visual style. Why I don't see the point of books on the likes of X-Men, Spider-Man etc)

Depends if it's well written or not, basically. The game was massively disappointing, especially after having read (something like two years ago, in I think an issue of New Scientist) that it was going to be something really different and exciting, a kind of co-production along with the film in the same way 2001: A Space Odyssey, except obviously there it was a book and a film, and the circumstances were somewhat different. However, instead of something like Mass Effect, it was just a pretty-looking but otherwise completely unremarkable film tie-in. Given the effort that went into the film, it almost seemed lazy. My hopes are not high for a novelization, in other words.

When you mean book, do you mean a novel or a graphic novel? If its a novel, who ever writes it better exceed any expectation from fans you liked/love the film. I think a graphic novel would be easier.

I would think that graphic novels are an anticipated part of his Expanded Universe that Cameron is developing but so far all he's spoken about have been novels. Obviously it depends on how well written the book and or additional books will be and the stories within them. The fact that he's spoken about an adaption of the movie and a prequel novel at the same time wouldn't surprise me if the book we see has elements of both.

I need to find the link, but he talked about how it deals with the human Na'vi school and is a prequel that goes through the movie and even a little after-wards.
