James Bond franchise--the return of SPECTRE and Blofeld?

I don't think the problem with DAF is Connery's age (he was younger in it than Moore was in LALD) but that he clearly phones in his performance.

He basically did he movie for the paycheque but it should be clarified that the vast bulk of his paycheque went to set up a charitable foundation.

My problem, I know, but I simply can't accept that Connery was only 41 in DAF. He looks 60 in it. Also that Moore is 3 years older than Connery.

Sir Roger of Moore could easily pass for late 30s in LALD when he was actually 48.

Yeah, I remember being surprised when my dad told me that Connery was younger.

Of course, in the 1980s and beyond, I thought Connery aged more gracefully and remained a sex symbol, while Moore, with his face lifts and toupees or weaved or whatever they were looked risible. I don't know any women who fancy Moore but loads have the hots for Connery.

I saw this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6YXSHUQKIbE on a BBC2 Wogan chat show retrospective a few months ago. It's made me think that Roger was either made up took look old or was just made up badly on AVTAK. He looks far younger on Wogan than in AVTAK.

And here's Roger 9 years later in 1994 //www.youtube.com/watch?v=J2x7WalRd7Y He aged badly those 9 years, no denying that. I guess that's the deal when you look so young in your 40s.

I really don't understand these "Roger Moore was too old" comments. His individual performance was consistent with the other two films of his that I watched, and I didn't find anything unbelievable or 'off' at all in terms of his interactions with the actresses who played May Day and Stacey.

The reasons the film only gets an 8.5 from me are the way that Zorin keeps getting the better of James far too easily and the unnecessary and over-the-top fire truck chase sequence, which seemed to me to exist purely as an excuse to destroy stuff.

Without spoiling the details of the new movie, can anyone say if the Quantum organization is referred to at all, or did it just quietly disappear without a trace?

I thought that was kind of left hanging with QoS, so it almost felt like Skyfall was a separate continuity from CR and QoS.

Kor

Not referred to at all that I recall. The only link to CR and QofS is 5 mins of Mr White, and some very forced, limp attempts to make it look like Le Chiffe, Silva, and presumably Vesper Lynd were all working for SPECTRE.

I kind of figured it would be something along those lines. I think that's better than no mention at all.

Where as I recall it being mentioned once.

Back from SPECTRE- that was fucking great! The only downsides were the number of music cues reused from Skyfall, and the lack of using the OHMSS musical riff from the trailer.

I wasn't blown away by Spectre, but it was a decent movie. The action scenes were great, especially the Mexico City opening sequence. The movie feels like there were some script problems, but overall its pretty enjoyable.

The opening song was awful though.

Pierce Brosnan Offended By Way New James Bond Holds Gun

HOLLYWOOD—According to a source close to Pierce Brosnan, the former James Bond actor felt affronted by the performance of Daniel Craig in the latest Bond film, Casino Royale. "Pierce just felt that he should have carried his gun in such a way that people knew it was James Bond they were dealing with, and not some 'first-year Bobby who doesn't know the first difference between an Aston Martin that transforms into a snowmobile and one that turns into a submarine,'" said the source, who added that Brosnan said the Bond girl bedded by Craig may have appeared attracted to him, but he could tell she was faking it. "Pierce felt the performance was amateur and that in general the film lacked a certain je ne sais quoi." Former Bond actor Roger Moore reportedly agreed with Brosnan's assessment and added that, while he was glad to see someone other than Timothy Dalton in the role, no actor has delivered the pithy elegance befitting 007 since 1979's Moonraker.

Boo-hoo for him.

While obviously parody, this reminds me of a problem I had with Brosnan's Bond. He was always so intense when he held his gun, none of the relaxed elegance of Connery, or even Craig. Sure Brosnan may have technically been holding the gun accurately in a combat situation, it kind of took away from the fantasy elements of the films.

Given what Craig has earned playing Bond you could argue he never needs to work again...and given he made nothing between Skyfall and Spectre you do have to wonder. I know the filming schedule is heavy, not to mention all the promotional stuff, but there are 3 years between those films, so either he just wasn't offered anything he fancied doing, or he just didn't fancy doing anything. (maybe he left his schedule clear because he was expecting to do the follow-up to Girl With the Dragon Tattoo?)

The article is right, he hasn't always chosen well in terms of scripts (he was ok in ...Dragon Tattoo, but he did seem to be just playing 007, only with glasses on top of his head and a comfy sweater, Cowboys and Aliens should have been great, but just had Craig and Ford trying to out dour one another...) but maybe he'll just go back to smaller scale roles? I don't want to hear him whining that he's been typecast ten years from now, he knew what he was walking into. Connery I can forgive (the first time at least) because no one had a clue when they made Dr No just how huge Bond was going to be, but he did keep coming back for the money.

I'm not sure any of the Bonds have really been failures after 007, and much as with Doctor Whos you have to consider what they were doing beforehand. Connery was pretty much an unknown, Lazenby was a model, Moore was well known, but mainly as a TV actor (The Saint, the Persuaders) Dalton was a theatre actor who'd done a couple of acclaimed roles--and Flash!-- Brosnan was again primarily a TV actor before Bond, his most notable starring roles in film being The Lawnmower Man, Alistair MacLean's Death Train and Mrs Doubtfire. Look at Craig's pre Bond canon as well, some notable roles but nothing earth shattering really.

I'm getting tired of this "No, he's not [insert name of famous villain character], he is called [insert random character name]", and then in the middle or last third of the film they're like "no, I'm actually [the famous villain]", but it's just a throwaway mention that adds NOTHING to the story at all.
