James Bond franchise--the return of SPECTRE and Blofeld?

That's just it. This isn't the first Bond theme I found to be weak and uninspired. It's just that the singing is so bad. I mean it sounds like the kind of thing you'd hear if you opened any random car door on a Friday afternoon.

Here is an alternative version I found ten years ago:

It's worth pointing out that most Bond themes are edited down to about 3 minutes to fit the title sequence. I'm not saying this will automatically make Sam Smith's song better, but a little tightening it up in places couldn't hurt.

Easier than it used to be? How so.

Singles don't sell as well as they used to. So you don't need to sell as many to reach No.1 as was the case in the past.

Well, I found the song... https://youtu.be/sVRRj3wAeE0...a bit shit...
A bit?

:barf:

That's gotta be the worse Bond theme in history.
The song itself is mediocre at best. But what's with the idiotic falsetto? The guy sounds like a pit bull has its teeth sunk in his nuts.

He deserves to have that happen to him anyway.

^I think that this song is as perfect as can be for the movie about to come out, and works fine for it rather than being just a song that mentions the title-let's see what the movie's like first before making any judgments (and no, I don't think that we need another instrumental score like OHMSS.)

It's interesting that only one song out of the four Craig films so far features the title in the actual song and uses it as the title of said song.

Before the Craig era, this only happened I think twice before, with 'Nobody Does it Better' for "Spy Who Loved Me" and 'All Time High' for "Octopussy."

Well, "Nobody Does It Better" did manage to work the phrase "the spy who loved me" into the lyrics. And just imagine trying to write a song called "Octopussy"!

In hindsight my comment around it being easier to get a number 1 now may have been incorrect. I was sure this was the case but can’t seem to find anything online to this effect—maybe someone else can clarify :)

What does seem to be true is that Smith’s made it to #1 selling fewer singles than Adele did to get to #2 (Smith sold 70,000, checking back to the media when Skyfall came out it seemed Adele sold about 84,000 copies in the first two days). So there is an issue of timing. Adele was pipped by an insanely popular song by the Swedish House Mafia that came out around the same time, and Skyfall was also released later in the week which limited how many sales it could rack up, so Smith’s got to #1 but he’s done so selling fewer records against weaker opposition. None of which changes the fact that he’s the first artist to get a Bond track to the UK #1 sadly.

It is growing on my, slightly, and it will be interesting to see how’s its edited/presented during the film.

Although Skyfall is the only Craig era song to mention the film’s title the word Solace does pop up in Another Way to Die, however the word quantum does not

It's possible when I see the film and hear it juxtaposed with the film's opening, i'll change my mind (this is what's happened every time I've heard a Bond theme before seeing the film), so I'm not going to make any definitive statements right now, but as it is right this now, on its own, given the context as a Bond theme and the comparison (naturally) to previous Bond songs, this one's not my favorite.

Like the trailer says, "It's all a matter of perspective..."

I have never heard a song by this guy before. I heard his name only because of the Spectre title song. I was unaware of the polarizing nature of his singing.

After 20 seconds of hearing him for the first time: "What the hell is wrong with that guy's voice? Why is he mumbling-crying-singing?"

After 90 seconds: "Is that a woman singing duet? No, wait...it's him. WTF is he doing that for?"

Well, this is good news.
:techman:
Since he was always contracted for 5 films anyway, I found it puzzling that people said this would be his last.

And I've said it before, but if he keeps turning in awesome performances, he'll go down as the best Bond of them all (besides Connery). He already ranks as my personal favorite.

For such a crappy song, they're making it hard for people to listen to it.

Perhaps they've realized that and they're going to surprise us with the real song when the film is released!

Yeah...I know.

Well this is an autotuned version someone made.

IMO infinitely better when a woman sings it
