James Bond franchise--the return of SPECTRE and Blofeld?

That poster is perfection.
Eh, it's missing a little je ne sais quoi... here, let me touch it up a bit.

There we go.

Re the script I think it's wrong to say there was no script.

Agreed. Now it's said that an early draft of the script was leaked thanks to this recent hack :scream:

It's probably going to get out soon. I can keep my pants on and wait but I know a lot of you folks can't. It's like Doctor Who all over again.

I saw the news about this earlier today and was quite disappointed because you're right -- there are going to be people who will go out of their way to find it and read it because they're so far removed from the "ground" here where the effects of the hack are really affecting people that they're just not going to care. "So what if I read it? It's not going to hurt anyone anymore!" or some such nonsense. The fact is the script has been leaked illegally and seeking it out and reading it will just make these people criminally complicit to the hackers and what they've done. In many ways, it's no different than the nude photos that were hacked and leaked of Jennifer Lawrence et al back in August.

Speaking as someone who's personal information was compromised and who knows several people whose information were also compromised in the Sony hack, it's really scummy that some people will seek it out and read it before they even finish shooting the first full week on the picture. Hopefully those persons will not feel the need to lord it over the rest of this forum, because if they do, they're just confirming that they're scumbags and have no problem with this sort of criminal action.

Personally I'm not bothered about concerns over the script, simply because the script for Skyfall makes absolutely fucking zero sense, even by Bond movie standards, and that didn't stop it being all-conquering... They're on a roll.

bring back Brosnan

He was great - I'd have liked another one from him. He deserved one great movie...

bring back.......gadgets.

The optimum amount of gadgets was achieved in From Russia With Love.

I hate the Craig movies.

! ? !

I could be wrong, but you're more into the films than the books aren't you ?

I know I'm in the monority

Damned right you are !

Or in UK terms Licence to Kill is a 15 certificate rather than a PG/12

I was under the impression something similar had happened in the States?

So I was watching the official EON Bond documentary Everything or Nothing on Netflix Instant last night, and was reminded that Fleming was heavily inspired by WWII for his hero's derring-do. Maybe the next series after Craig should reintroduce the character as a commando in his 20s at the height of the war, and have the first installment be a cross between a traditional Bond movie and a classic war caper like The Dam Busters, something requiring his upper-class suavity in addition to traditional soldiering grit. Said reboot could then end with the war ending, and Bond being recruited into MI6.

Because the more I think on it, the weirder Casino Royale's introduction of Bond as a late-30s rookie gets. What was he doing prior to scoring his two kills? He was a Commander in the Royal Navy... but never killed anyone? Or did military kills not count?

Another interesting moment in the documentary was the observation that Dr. No came out at about the same time as the tensions over the Cuban Missile Crisis, and the producers were wary of unnecessarily inflaming cultural tensions by showing the Soviets in too harsh a light, which (along with Roger Moore's self-described pacifism) no doubt helps explain why we got organizations with such silly names as "SPecial Executive for Counter-Intelligence, Terrorism, Revenge and Extortion", and the jaunt to space in Moonraker. (And now the next movie promises to honor/nostalgize this already watered-down vision in a contemporary era devoid of its actual subtextual target, joie.) Because without Fleming British's nationalism, apart from the general lack of American accents, what really differentiates 007's MI6 from the Impossible Missions Force? Just a thought...

^ Yeah, I've always wanted to see more of Bond's military career. Do we know anything about it, other than the fact that he used to serve in the Royal Navy? Did any film or novel actually go into any kind of detail about his military service? (For instance, what did he actually do in the Navy? What was his posting?)

And that's interesting about his age in Casino Royale. He does seem too old to be such a rookie agent. Perhaps at this point Bond, as Craig played him, has only just retired from the Navy?

Movie Bond has a somewhat moveable timeline which currently would put his military career around Gulf War 2 or Afghanistan. As a naval officer, not having personally killed someone wouldn't seem unlikely, unless he was seconded to some sort of in theatre intelligence unit who saw direct engagement with the enemy.

Even so, that would be some way from the two professional assassinations required to qualify for '00' status.
