James Bond franchise--the return of SPECTRE and Blofeld?

I can't believe I was so dumb as to not spot the OHMSS homage in the poster. Absolutely brilliant. Even with their return being in a new continuity (well, in theory, Skyfall did feel as if Mendes was basically working on a "It all happened to him, screw the contradictions" principle with things like the DB5) there's a real sense of unfinished business here that makes it hugely exciting.

I has done a video talking about it with many terrible mispronunciations:

Well, now Moneypenny is in place, Bond's a seasoned 00 agent and M's a bloke again, there's little to say the coming films and the old ones aren't in the same continuity.

Well, apart from the actors, fashions, cars, technology...but we've never taken a lot of notice of all that !

And the fact that it's been flat-out stated, as pointed out above, that Casino Royale represented a reboot for the franchise.

It's very clearly a new continiuty/reboot. And that's fine.

Getting hung up on the DB5 in Skyfall is silly; I seem to recall Mendes revealing in an interview it was added in just for fun because it was a cool idea for the film, nothing more.

Production on SPECTRE has begun.

A cryptic message from Bond’s past sends him on a trail to uncover a sinister organisation, Spectre. While M battles political forces to keep the secret service alive, Bond peels back the layers of deceit to reveal the terrible truth behind Spectre. Daniel Craig returns as 007 along with Ralph Fiennes as the new M, Naomie Harris as Moneypenny, and Ben Whishaw as Q. New cast members include Christoph Waltz, Monica Bellucci, Dave Bautista and Lea Seydoux. Sony Pictures releases the film next fall on November 6th, 2015.

But Brosnan's M was a woman? Does this mean you don't think Pierce's entries are canon?

Not at all. There's no reason whatsoever that there couldn't have been more than one female 'M'. My point was just that the early films could just as easily be fit in 'about now' in the new continuity.

If it is a full reboot, are they considering remaking some of the Fleming stories ? I don't see it happening.

You mean the same woman that was Craig's M for 2 1/2 movies? XD

Pierce who?

Didn't they reboot after Timothy Dalton? (You know the guy who took over after Sean Connery).

:p

I can see them taking stories whose titles were used but whose plots were either left completely unused or only partly adapted. Moonraker is the only one I can think of off the top of my head, though.

More likely we'll just see more original plots with elements from the books mixed in.

I hope not. It would take a lot for me to ever start hating the franchise, but if they remade OHMSS or any other film that might be the point where I bailed.

Actually she's pobably M for neary 2.9 of his films :p

Not a fan of George, Rog or Pierce I take it

The Spy Who Loved Me is another, although it wouldn't make for a great Bond film, and of course Fleming said they could only use the title to that. Oddly I quite enjoyed the book.

^ If I recall correctly, Bond is on the way back from a mission at the start of the novel. They could show the mission and use the novel as the second part of the movie.

Or a version of it. A chase / road movie ending at the deserted motel could work.

Or it could work as a low key pre title sequence. They might have to jazz it up somewhat! The pre-title sequence doesn't have to be relevant to the plot of the film. Casino Royale's wasn't , before that I guess you have to go back to Octopussy (though I guess TND's relevance is fairly tenuous, just a shot of Gupta and the encoder) and FYEO

My buddy Brad Hansen (the guy who cut together "The Lion King Rises" a few years ago) just posted this latest supercut, explaining SPECTRE with footage from classic 007 films:
