In high-school my buddy in I used to play an old PC game called "transport tycoon" and in it you'd build various networks for transporting goods/materials between towns on the map using various shipping methods.
One of the easier and more profitable industries was coal, so I'd set up a mining operation and a railroad network between the mine and the powerplane/city. I named the train the "Roscoe P. Coal-Train."
Best worked steadily from getting into film around 1950, through the 60s, mostly in westerns, but also three spooky Twilight Zone episodes about backwoods people. Things started to slow down as he neared 50, but then Dukes gave him a second wind.
Best Dukes out-take I've seen had Roscoe firing his gun from behind his car. "I'll shoot the livin' shit out of ya!"
I was just thinking of him the other day because Encore has been running a Wanted Dead or Alive promo with Steve McQueen and the mare's leg getting the drop on Best. He turned up in pretty much all the TV westerns and was always dependable, and especially good as a reluctant bad guy or someone with an inner conflict or secret. His later-career success on "Hazzard" was well deserved. RIP.
So help me, I swore that I heard this news years before. There I go waking up in another alternate universe again. I guess quantum immortality is all anyone can hope for.
