Jackie Lane

Damn, this is very sad news. I know I'm one of the few people who genuinely like Dodo despite her limited run which was further limited by missing episodes. She certainly got the short stick when it came to her departure which never sat well with me.

While her run on the show was limited, she had a continuous connection as Tom Baker and Janet Fielding's agent as well as managing Nicholas Courtney. Still, I was sad that she repeatedly turned down Big Finish's offers to reprise the role, understandably because she had long since retired from acting. Alas.

Rest in peace, Jackie.

Just like most people alive and walking around today, I've only seen The Ark, The Gunfighters, and the War Machines. Not really enough to judge Dodo as a character (I hate the name Dodo, so demeaning, to be honest).

But she's a part of the show's history, and it's sad that another piece is gone.

Off topic, but I just realized that FAR more time has passed since I became a fan of Doctor Who (1983) than had passed from the time the show started until the time I became a fan.

Wow.

"The Five Doctors" is older now than "An Unearthly Child" was when I first started watching.

  • THe mind game is to work out what stories would be a repeat season if they were the same vintage as the Five Faces season (the McGann movie, something from the Donna season, two from Smith's last season, and Revolution of the Daleks).

I have to be honest, I don't understand what you just said here.

In 81, the vintage stories were 18, 13, 9, 9 years old, and 9 months. Apply that now and see what would be run...

I don't have much recollection of seeing episodes with Lane, so I looked her up. They did quite the makeup and hair job on her to give her the look she had on the show. She has quite the pin-up collection that look NOTHING like her character.

There’s an American actress from that period called Jackie Lane who did pinups. The American lady was Jocelyn Lane. The Doctor Who actress was Jacqueline Lane and did NOT show her tiddies and arse in lads mags.

The Companion Time Forgot... :weep: And, in the books anyway, the unluckiest Companion short of maybe Adam. I'm glad Jackie never let her short stint make her bitter, and even got a bit of revenge back against the producer who dumped her character. (Innes Lloyd asked her to find him work not remembering who she was, and she sassily reminded him before turning him down)

"Dodo" was short for "Dorothy".

Apparently you became a Whovian the year after I did.
