I almost am, but I have this lingering fear that Paramount is once again going to try and pigeonhole him into a would-be action star, thus missing the entire point of the character.

It's the most significant thing that worked with Baldwin, and they abandoned it when they brought in Harrison Jones Solo.

Yeah, I agree. Blasphemy I know but in many ways Baldwin is my favourite movie Ryan.

To this day when I read a Jack Ryan novel I still picture Alec Baldwin in my mind. Even if Baldwin annoys me personally he's still the best fit for the role.

Yeah, Jack Ryan wasn't really all that right wing or political until he became President which was long after Hunt.

Well at the end of the day they are actors, so it's just a role really, people play against their own personal feelings all the time.

What was so right wing about the role in Hunt for Red October?

Perhaps not the Red October role itself, but who Jack Ryan eventually became. Baldwin wasn't all that outspoken in the early 90's, either.
