Was there a joke involved there?

Did Jack London ever say that an Albino man inspired him to writer?

Clemens "inspired" him to be a writer, in the episode. Not Data. In real life it's unlikely Clemens and London ever met. Though I do believe most of the "history" we hear of Jack in the episode (including living in SanFran and visiting Alaska) is mostly accurate, as well as his variety of occupations.

I think there's a slim window where they were both "likely" in San Francisco at the same time but it's unlikely the two every met, especially in not a significant enough of a manner for Clemens to inspire London to be a writer.
