It will be animated, so hopefully no lens flare.

STAR TREK director J.J. Abrams will be joining former Hanna-Barbera president Fred Seibert to produce a feature film version of the hit Cartoon Network animated series SAMURAI JACK. The $20 million film will use a combination of traditional cell animation and stereoscopic 3-D.

Seibert revealed the news on his blog while explaining how his company Frederator Films came to acquire rights to the series as their first film project.

SAMURAI JACK is the creation of Genndy Tartakovsky, whose other animated projects include DEXTER'S LABORATORY and STAR WARS: CLONE WARS. He also episodes of Craig McCracken's THE POWERPUFF GIRLS.

The series centers on the title character (voiced by Phil LaMarr), a Japanese samurai on a quest to defeat an evil shape-shifting wizard named Aku (voiced by Mako). He is transported far into the future at the beginning of the series and discovers that Aku is now the supreme ruler of all. Jack battles Aku's minions while attempting to discover a way to return to his own time in order to stop Aku from taking over the world.

The series originally aired from 2001 through 2004. It was widely praised by critics and viewers, in part for possessing a strong cinematic visual style that successfully drew inspiration from a variety of film genres including Spaghetti Westerns, kung fu, chambara, and sci-fi.

It is supposed to finish the story, according to the original blog post.

If it finishes the story it's great but I am worried JJ will reboot this thing and we won't get our conclusion.

As long as this dosnt mean he isnt doing the micronauts now, I really want that film!

If Abrams is smart he will get Greg Baldwin to voice Aku. He voiced Iroh on Avatar during the 3rd season after Mako died. They sound extremely similar.

My geeking out is so high right now, I am in danger of becoming the Robot Chicken nerd.

Personally, I've always believed that if Jack ever does get to that portal, his strength and skills will be so great that past-Aku will be overwhelmed--Jack already will know his best tricks. OTOH, the wiping away of many honorable allies might give him pause. Still, most in that future, probably even those doing 'well' might just choose to gamble on an Aku-free timeline.

Is that all he is good at? Raping franchises?
I'm worried he's off raping a cartoon. I want him to give Star Trek another go, she took her rapin' like Dominique Francon and now wants more from his Howard Roarkish creativity.

I'm just concerned he'll get sidetracked by this cartoon or a million other tempting targets that are in his horny eyesights. I want him to sexually violate franchises I care about, damn it!

Right. Can we stop using 'rape' now? Please? Let's take a deep breath and try 'ruin' on for size. 'Ruination of franchises!' 'Ruined my childhood!' Doesn't sound so bad, no? Not as hysterical, but also, not as hysterical.

What did he create? LOST? Because LOST didn't become good until after he left. Fringe is hit or miss at best.

And I can use the word rape if I want. It's like "screw up", not as strong as saying "fucked up".

What has JJ "raped"?

Also according to Seibert's blog post it is supposed to wrap up the storyline so I am excited for it.

What did he create? LOST?

Before that, he did Felicity and Alias.

And I can use the word rape if I want.

You can use it, but it's grossly insensitive and obnoxious to liken something as superficial as distaste for a work of entertainment to something as horrific and traumatic as the violation of one's body. So just because you have the right to use that analogy doesn't mean you should. Good taste and respect for other's feelings may not be compulsory, but they shouldn't have to be. A decent person will exercise them voluntarily.

I'm wondering if this will be more of a TV movie if it's finishing the story, I think it might be a bit much to get movie-goers to flock and see a movie based on a relatively unknown cartoon on CN.

Personally I was never a Jack fan (though I loved the short lived CW's that came after) hope the fans get what they want
