J.J. Abrams Live Chat at Trekmovie.com on 1/25/2008

I'm never cynical. Life is too short for that.

Tell that to the cynics.

One thing we can remember is those who gave us Nemesis are not involved in this outing and that should give us some comfort. These folks seem to be big fans, not as overboard as some of us (raises hand) and seem to care about giving us something we'll really love. That makes me excited.

Does no one remember that the "Nemesis" people were huge fans?

soo true. The writer said all the right things- his favorite flick was Wrath of Khan, he wanted to ditch the overused Klingons and use Romulans as the heavies, and he wanted to focus on Picard and Data. Sigh.

There has never been anyone who worked above the line on "Star Trek" who was not a "big fan of the show."

Even the many actors who never watched the show before being cast.

Seriously.

The standard answer goes along the following lines:

"Oh yeah, definitely a big fan. I mean, I could never tell you what deck Spock's quarters were on, but the show was always on the TV when I was growing up. My brother was really into it, and I remember always thinking that there was something unique about it.

"The show foreshadowed so much that's come to pass in our world. Like cell phones and contact with other planets.

"Gene Roddenberry...what can I say that hasn't been said? The man was truly a visionary."

Life has taught me to be cynical. I started out optimistic. :p

I can't believe that chat is still ongoing. I was there for several hours myself.

The Enterprise interiors are phyiscal.

Exterior is all CG.

The swoosh sound will be similar to the original. Very similar, actually.

That's pretty much what I took from it as well.

But I'm cynical. I remember all of the enthusiasm about Enterprise.

Oh jeez. Yes, those were the days weren't they?

Sounded a lot better on paper. So do a lot of concepts (see: Andromeda).

I still haven't forgiven either you or Where'sSaavik? for being conveniently absent during the "Akiraprise" incident.

Dude, we made you work for ONE DAY!

All those times you skipped out on us! :p

Gee, I miss wS?.

When I took my username I had no idea there was such baggage behind it. Truely. I was so naive back then.

This is cool. Berman never would've done something like this. He was always a bit too aloof from the fans.

No... But, the writers would have put together a slide show for a convention, like they did during the 90s.

Well, this one certainly isn't, since it's on UBB... It's like technology from the Heaven's Gate era!

TBonz, when are we gonna move to PHPBB3?

Please no Phpbb! Version 3 is much better than 2 but it does not hold a candle to Invision or vBulletin. As for Trekmovie, I have a feeling things will get a whole lot better for him . :)

hi guys...glad you enjoyed the chat and sorry for the tech issues. They only gave me a few hours to prepare for it and said 'it will be fine' I asked them to wait until I could do something more elaborate which we are working on...but after the first hour it worked fine.

See, the advantage of Abrams being a fellow nerd is, he doesn't back out of the room when he encounters an internet forum full of rowdy fanboys.

Excellent! It's not a flashback movie. Seeing old Spock and young Spock kick ass together will be so cool.
