The Captain reminds me of Frau Blucher...

It's depressing that people continue to debate about what shows or movies have been financially successful.
Until relatively recently, it wasn't the duty of fans to worry about financial matters except insofar as it directly impinged upon the likelihood of a sequel or another season. But today, scifi and other genre fans act like financial portfolio managers and scrutinize the profits of entertainment properties less like consumers and more like speculators.
Talosian, I could not agree more. Something is definitely off-kilter, and the last time I heard a couple of young fellows talking about comic book movies really drove this home to me. The whole discussion was dominated by "Paramount-owns-this-character-then-he-won't-be-used-until-Marvel's-contract-for-so-and-so-expires-bla-bla-bla". Talking about the basic fun and appeal being lost!! It's like the sense of wonder and mystery has been supplanted by a sense of property.![]()
And the cars are present-day, although I guess that's inescapable.
Especially when there are floating bubble cars around.

I haven't seen any bubble cars in the show. I have noticed ring-shaped aerial surveillance drones; perhaps that's what you're thinking of.
As to the futurism, I'd agree it could use some work, but I would much prefer a more subtle approach than being hit over the head with super high tech stuff all the time. One instance of tech I felt was a little out of place was the electronic police tape in the first episode. It seems to me that old fashioned police tape would be more practical than using an electronic gadget. I suppose the electronic police tape could be used for more than just marking an area as off limits, like detecting unauthorized access to the crime scene, but I just felt like it was a bit too in your face in saying "look, it's the future!" In any case, it's only a minor gripe.
That's what I thought too.Was it just me, or was Kennix's difficult lingering silent moment after admitting that he's into another woman, in front of the Captain, suggesting that it was the Captain who is the other woman who he is interested in?
I think there were one or two male sexbots in the background of that one dude's sexbot showroom. It's funny, when they were walking up to the sexbot showroom I turned to my wife and said "I wonder if they'll have any male sexbots". I think they dropped the ball a bit there.

On the issue of cell phones or the internet for that matter, I can see people using interactive virtual displays that are visible through glasses, contact lenses or by some other means.

I don't supposed anyone counted how many times 'sexbot' was said tonight. Honestly, I lost count.![]()
The case was about sexbots. Would you have preferred it if they had used a different word every time they were referenced? That's like complaining about how many time they would say "cars" if it had been about an automobile theft ring.
You say self drive, but here's what I see... Farms of poor people in India, in cubicles driving cars in the US remotely.
Is that cheaper than the AI they use in robots?
Probably not.
Have you seen how they drive in India?
