Yeah, but it worked better there because only a few characters knew about Liv's situation. Now, both Major and Peyton (gods, these character names) know the situation, she doesn't have to hide anything from them anymore, so it's more contrived and implausible now to have the storylines depend on, say, Peyton not knowing what Liv knows about Blaine. That's what I meant.
Tonight's was probably the best episode of the season. A lot of the characters had some of their storylines advance, and the brain of the week, while another stereotypical cliche, at least was a pretty positive one. It was nice to see Liv hook Major up with that basketball team. It was nice to see Major shave. It was odd but also fun to see Blaine and Ravi fight, and I'm glad Ravi disposed of the problem in a comprehensive manner. I liked Liv being a doctor and checking Major's blood pressure in the morning.
Some good funny stuff too throughout the episode, though the one bit that seemed a little off was when the FBI agent was doing the canoe and going down the stairs gag while Clive was getting chewed out about harassing his bosses widow.
Speaking of Clive, we saw what he thought of guys who hit kids. I wonder if there's any backstory there still to come. (And speaking of that scene, I noticed a nice northwest rain when they first went to talk to that guy when he was working out in his garage.)
Gilda was hurt when she found out Major wanted Liv over her. I'm glad Major is trying to do the right thing, but you know it's going to cost him.
Clive is slowly barking up the zombie tree. I'd be shocked if he discovered anything before the end of the season though.

Now, this is more like it. A brain-persona that isn't just an excuse for silly characterization but actually has a direct tie-in to the main characters' story. Liv taking on the persona of a motivational coach was just what she and Major needed to get him back on track. And I liked how, in the scene where she gave Major the pep talk, it was still clear that the words were coming from her own feelings and motivations, even if the attitude and mannerisms came from the guard/coach. That's the kind of balance that I felt was missing in the first three episodes.
And I didn't feel the victim was as stereotyped as the others. At least he had more than one trait -- he was both a security guard and a kids' basketball coach. The personality Liv absorbed wasn't immediately obvious from the victim's identity or profession. And he wasn't just "guy who likes sports," he was a guy who cared about kids and wanted to give them guidance and used sports as a way to do that. So there was more going on with him than with the first three victims this season, more layers to his persona. Not to mention that, unlike those three, he was someone we wanted to root for. (Which was also somewhat true of last week's victim.)
Also glad to see that Major's downward spiral into drug abuse didn't last, because that was a really unappealing storyline.
I wonder, was the tainted Utopium formula really incorrect, or is instant death just what happens when someone who's already a zombie gets a second dose of the original Utopium/Max Rager mix? The episode assumed the former, but I don't think we can really rule out the latter. So points off for Ravi's scientific method. Still, the stuff was destroyed, and so was the only guy who knew the formula (and even he apparently botched it), so I guess that's a moot point.

It took me a while to remember seeing this thread. I'm going to attempt to revive it.

Yup, and the perfect clean-cut boyfriend is Major Lilywhite, and the brain-eating zombie bad guy (at least, he used to be) is Blaine, and so on. And now we get Peyton investigating a mob boss named Stacey Boss. This show really goes overboard with the on-the-nose character names.
So, big question... If Major dumped Blaine's dad Robert Knepper in his freezer... then who or what was it that he shot twice in the head and dumped in the river just moments before?
I don't know but honestly, I tend not to focus on the daily and nightly activities of Mr. Lilywhite. It's all about Liv, Ravi, Clive, and Blaine for me. Heck, I think even Minor the dog is more interesting!
