I've always wanted to do it and i finally DID!!!!

I didn't tell you that I thought it looked nice.

I think it looks nice.

And I see you're pretty in pink like me. Do you mind being pink and with freckles? Or have you tried tanning or tanning cream?

White skin isn't necessarily bad, but I'm PINK! And my legs are WHITE--screaming WHITE! I tried tan-in-a-can. It ran out before it got my skin noticeably darker. I applied coat after coat. No melanin, I guess. So when friends tell me I should try getting darker, I ask if they'd tell a black person that they should try getting their skin lightened. I've said that to black people too, when we're talking about skin and skin shade. They laugh with me and say they've never thought of it turned around like that.

Completely OT but I just wanted to let you know there's someone out here who understands -- I am pink too. And I am so fucking sick of people commenting on it. Today the woman who threaded my eyebrows said she liked my cheeks, that they were like apples, which is sweet and I can handle. But just a couple weeks ago another woman (a complete stranger, mind you) started telling me about how I should go see a doctor about it, get some treatment to "take the red off." I told her politely that there is nothing wrong with my face, that it just happens to be pink, and gets pinker when I'm hot or cold. She went on and on, "No, no, they can give you medicine to take the red off..."

Sometimes I hate people.

Oh, and I have the white legs too.

^^^ Wow, that's horrible. My husband is super white but with the pink/reddish face that flushes easily. He hates it, but I think it's adorable. He's actually tried to get rid of it!

Back on topic, I love the tattoo. I'd never get one myself as they're not really my thing, but I'm glad you've fulfilled a goal and with the blessing of your husband, so it's not a source of conflict. It's tasteful and beautifully done, and I'm happy for you. :)

I once read an interview with Axl Rose in which he advised young people to take any design they wanted to get as a tattoo and stick it up on their bathroom mirror for a full year and if you still want it after that, go for it. He said it would have saved him a lot of stupid tattoos.

That said, I wish I had the balls to get a tattoo like yours, YR. :bolian:

The neat thing is that's the exact tattoo I wanted to get when I thought I wanted to get one. I even carried an old Star Trek trading card that had the command logo on it and was thinking of getting it on my chest.

I have a two tattoos. One is based of Ancient Vulcan caligraphy and the other is like torn skin with an eyeball underneath. I'll post a couple of pics later when I can find them.

Good for you for going for it YR!

^ LOL YES! And proud of it! :rommie:

I had a weird dream a while ago that I got a Trek tattoo. It was the TOS arrowhead, but in metallic blue and black (like the advertising for last year's movie), and on my inside right forearm just below the elbow. As I recall I was quite pleased with it in dreamworld.

I don't quite love Star Trek enough to get one for real, though :p

Yours looks nice, Randi! Congrats :)

Thanks! I like that location (the one you had in your dream. That would be an excellent place for it.)

Yippee! Congratulations! :D

I think you know the thing I just did that I've wanted to do for a long time. ;)

YES and congratulations hon!! :bolian:

Watching that video made every inch of skin cringe and hurt.

Congrats on that tat... I guess. :) Cool design to pick, though! :techman:

No, it really really didn't hurt. Felt like bee stings, and that's not bad at all. I can't say that i would enjoy having an entire 'sleeve' done, that might border on torture. But my tat is so small and it was over and done so fast, that it truly was no biggie.

I would LOVE to see the pictures!

I'd love to respond to every post but that might make the mods cranky. I do want to thank everyone for their responses! I am sooo happy with the tattoo and it was something i longed for, for so many years. I'm really walking on air! I have to say, i give a lot of kudos to the husband who finally said 'go for it'. I never in a million years thought he would. :)

This one looks cool...but I hope to get the full \S/uperman tat. :)

GAH! I did want to respond to you ladies!

Eeek. Some people don't know when to stfu. Sorry you've had to deal with such remarks! Actually, my body is really weird. My legs never tan. They stay white or they burn. But my upper torso, arms and face do tan. But these days, i try to stay out of the sun or i wear a lot of sunscreen. I'm too old to start dicking around with taking chances with skin cancer, although it is my understanding that it will be the burns i got as a teenager that will give me the cancer.

Getting the tattoo is pure awesomeness on your part. You've boldly gone where no Randi has gone before, and isn't that the basic premise of Star Trek? To explore new things and seek out new adventures?

I love you Scott! Thanks for your support!

OK, a quick cool story that happened on Saturday because of my new tattoo:

I sell stuff on ebay and have been doing so since 1998. So, the people in my teeny tiny post office know me and know me well. Not for anything, but i'm like a fucking icon in that place, no kidding.

So, about a week ago i go in with a package i need to ship and a postal money order that i want to cash. I didn't bring my wallet/id with me, well, because everyone in there knows me and i don't need ID when i go in there....ever.

Well, there's a new guy behind the counter. And i produce the money order to cash and he says he needs to see some form of ID. And i'm like, "I don't have anything with me"...and he's like, "Well, then i can't cash it". And i explain that i am in there everyday and everyone knows me, and his reply is "WELL I DON'T KNOW YOU AND I NEED SOME ID". Now, as i said, it's a small post office and i can HEAR everyone in the back, so i say, "Could you just go in the back and ask the guys to OK this?" and he begrudgingly goes in the back and i hear the Post Master say, "OH RANDI! Sure you can cash this!" And the guy comes back all pissy. (I really can't blame him, he was new and he needed to see ID. He also could have asked someone a lot sooner....)

Ok, so ....we didn't get off to a good start.

So, Saturday i go in with a package, sporting my brand new Star Trek tattoo. And guess who's at the counter? He takes one look at the tattoo, his face lights up and he goes, "YOU'RE a trekkie???" And the two of us spend the next 20 minutes talking about everything from the new movie to the prime directive, WoK, TOS and everything in between. We are now friends.

It was awesome. :):):) :techman: :bolian:

^That's a fantastic story!

All I ever get from my tattoos are creepy old guys hitting on me by asking, "So, are you a musician?"

^lol!

Randi - I'm glad the wonderful tat is opening doors for you but I cannot imagine the guy at the post office would not become your friend eventually anyway - you're like a force of nature! But it's wonderful it opened that door at that moment! Love and hugs on ya!!!

Wow, In crude terms, I would have told that lady to go copulate with an arboreal species.

awesome!
tattoos are becoming much less taboo these days . . . in fact I find chicks with sleeves to be super hott

you definitely picked an excellent design which is pretty hard to screw up, and there's nothing worse than a screwed up tattoo :D
