UK diginet ITV2 has ordered a supernatural drama about four friends who are all witches, to be produced by the creators of Being Human.
Switch (6x60’) follows four women who live together in London and all share the secret that they are members of a witches’ coven.
Touchpaper Television will produce the series, with producer Philip Trethowan and exec producer Rob Pursey (both Being Human). Production will take place in London, Cardiff and Bristol for 11 weeks, beginning next month.
Zodiak Rights, the distribution arm of Touchpaper-parent Zodiak Media, has worldwide rights to the show.
Switch is written by Chloe Moss (Secret Diary of a Call Girl) and Tim Price (EastEnders).
It was commissioned by ITV’s director of digital channels and acquisitions Angela Jain and ITV’s drama commissioning team Laura Mackie and Sally Haynes.
“Switch is a contemporary series about friendship with a spell-binding twist,” said Mackie. “Chloe and Tim have created four fun-loving, free-spirited characters and we’re delighted with the direction the series takes.”
Given ITV2's usual type of programming I'm not expecting great things from this, but it's good to see another channel in the UK dipping it's toe in to genre programming.
