It's time for the ROMULAN to be done justice

If you play Star trek Online you know that the romulans are really well done in that game and a very interesting multi faceted species.

On screen they are 99% of the time just devious and manipulative with little redeeming features other than they "occasionally" will surprise by doing the right thing.

Anyway, TNG and DS9 changes the klingons from being fairly one dimensional, I'd love to see the romulan get a fair treatment.

Since their home world was destroyed in the prime universe, it'd be a perfect time to show them rebuilding their society and maybe even building better relationships with the other major powers.

I’d like to see the Romulans done properly. Not the stiff campaign leaders, though I’d like more of that too.

The trouble with the Romulans is that they are secretive, and that cloud of secrecy is a large part of their appeal. Can the producers give us what we want without destroying the mystery? Tantalising glimpses of strange doors ajar are way more intriguing than a dry picardian treatise on Romulan culture.

This a cake and eat it thing.

They're certainly the least developed off all the major races in Trek. I think it might stay that way. It's obvious they're the fall back villain when one is needed. Sometimes you need that. Two movies in a row with them was too much though (Nemesis and Star Trek 2009).

The Romulans were done sooooo much better in the old Rihannsu novels than anything on-screen.

Yeah I agree. I just finished reading that series for the first time. The characterization and detail put into the Romulans really offered some insight without losing the overall adversarial relationship intended from the series and earlier novels.

Possible idea for Discovery, add a romulan spy to the ship! General starfleet people don't know they look like Vulcans, so do something like they did in Enterprise. By this time frame, there self imposed exile is coming to an end, so the preator sends out cloaked ships, and spies to see what the Federation is up to, and after the losses in the Klingon war, is this there time to "Come out of the shadows" And if there's a section 31 story in Season 2..
Would love to have a "Spy" show in the Star Trek world.. Would be quite interesting!

Without their connection to Vulcans, they are about as interesting as the Pakleds to me.

No doubt that's because they were so under developed.

The first major /recurring antagonist species in Trek and look how underused and one dimensional they are.

They are a sneaky people.
Planet of hats.

Alternate idea. Given that it's Discovery and things are different ... the Romulan war did happen 90 years before, however the Romulans never disappeared behind a wall in space, and while the Romulans and the Federation aren't the best of friends, neither are they sworn blood enemies.

Things change over time.

The young Romulan (male or female) is one of a small group of thirty or so Romulan military officers on a first time exchange program with Starfleet. A equal sized group of Starfleet are serving on Romulan ships.

The Starfleet crew is welcoming and intensely curious about the Romulan, but at the same time not completely trusting. The Romulan officer will have to learn to make their way aboard the ship, both on duty and inside the ship's society.

The writers actually have for some reason established a rule that they can't use the Romulans because of Balance of Terror. Despite the fact that they do have Romulan storyline ideas, they are that committed to the idea this is meant to be the Prime Universe.

As much as I love the Romulans, I do not expect nor need them to be done "justice." The novels have done well, and have enjoyed their appearances throughout Star Trek shows.

If they appear on the Picard show great. But, I don't need them on Discovery.
