It's not Star Trek! The Prometheus...

Well, I realized that I have never built and finished a ship that wasn't Star Trek related, in some way. So, because of my recent Stargate obsession, I decided to build an X-303 Prometheus. I know it got destroyed in the show, so I'm actually going to name this one something else. I figured, these are smaller than a Daedalus class, so they should be cheaper...

That's about 3 hours of combined work. It's weird, not building any cylinders. :)

This ship is so beneath you skills Mad the design had to be fugugly sci fi ship to make it into space. Absolutely no grace it looks like Peter stacked some Legos together and handed to CGI guys to model it for the show. Why not try the Destiny? please....

Not a big Stargate fan but the ugly Earth starships on the show appeal to me - the folks building them are presumed to be concerned only with their functionality, not their appearence. Given that the humans are supposed to be applying recently acquired advanced alien technology using current-day engineering and materials that makes a certain amount of sense.

The thing to remember about Prometheus is that it was designed to use reverse-engineered Goa'Uld tech and later modified to use Asgard tech (as it became available), as opposed to Daedalus, which was designed with the available Asgard tech in mind...

More than a few people have mentioned that Prometheus and Daedalus are EXACTLY what one would expect to see if military engineers designed starships...

Thanks, guys. :) I think that's why I like this one so much... it's not refined, it only works as well as it absolutely has to, and it looks like something we could build, right now. I think all we really lack are the engines, and gravity/antigravity features...

More updates later.

I'm guessing that you're going to add surface details along the way? I'm liking the start of it though :) It'll be an interesting change of pace, since the Earth starships (I would presume) are fairly heavy in surface detail, but more simplistic in overall shape than your previous works here.

Any ideas for names yet?

Of course. :) I'm only really about halfway done. I'm going to greeble it up real good.

Not yet... I actually was seriously considering "Enterprise", though. :)

How about Atlas, or Epimetheus, or even better Menoetius would be even better. These Titans are brothers of Prometheus.

Cool, I think that's on the right track. I'm going to do some reading about the Titans... I bet I'll find a good name in there, somewhere.

Well, here's my progress from today. I got all the windows placed, and I'm starting on the "Greebling" It has missile launchers, now, anyway. :)

More updates later on. It's going to rain tonight, so I can't work on the stargate...

More "greebling", and from a slightly different angle...

I'm starting to really like this ship. :) It's pretty weird, as designs go...

It's looking great so far. The only quibble I have is with the forward section. It drops down a lot further than what you have it doing. The bottom of the nose is not level with the bottom of the aft part where the engines are. You need to lower to bottom of the nose, along with the flat part at the very front of the ship, and make the slope on the rest of the forward-dorsal area steeper.

Yeah, I think you're right. I don't know if I'll fix it, though... I'm actually getting pretty close to finishing it. Maybe we can just say it's a design refinement?

Just a couple more.... I had to add the dishes. :)

What do you guys think? I know I'm deviating from the official version....

Looks good so far...

Since you're still working on them, I think the sublight engines need to be closer together...

Like this...

Great work! Love the greebles... that shading effect...is that something that blender does, or are you texturing it to look like that ? (like doing a dark wash with paint thinner, so the paint sticks into the seams...if it were a "real" plastic model.)
Very nice, organic look.
Nice to see something from a different "universe"...:)
