The other day I was watching Predator. That little nugget of info has actually nothing to do with where I'm going with this, just a basic setup. Afterward, I was still in the mood to watch some more Man Vs. Wild type adventures, so I popped in my copy of The Edge http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0119051/ , with Anthony Hopkins and Alec Baldwin, one of my favorite films and not one you hear a lot about. Well I was watching it, and I began to see it had a few similarities to our favorite ongoing island mystery saga.
First of all, there is obviously it deals with survivors of a plane crash duh. But this time, it's the Alaskan wilderness instead of an island in the south pacific. Next, Their plane crashed in an area where rescuers wouldn't be searching.
There is treachery afoot, as motives of certain individuals isn't all on the up and up.
The wilderness provides it's own share of dangers in the form of a BEAR[/i]. This time it's an Alaskan brown bear instead of a polar bear that is stalking our survivors.
Anthony Hopkins plays a John Locke type person who knows what to do to keep himself and the other survivors alive. He also is a fountain of practical knowledge and finally has a chance to put it to use. He even gets his own "Don't tell me what I can't do," type line.
Hell, even Harold Perrineau is in it, and if you really hate Michael, watch this movie simply for what happens to him.
So that's just what I've found from it. I'm sure if there were flashback scenes in it, it would have been a test run for LOST.
So what have you found that is not LOST, but close enough to get you through the hiatus.
