IT'S NOT FAIR!!! (release dates)

Gah!

I just noticed that Australia, New Zealand, France, and a few other places will see the movie BEFORE it opens in the States! (Worse with A and NZ, since they're about a dozen hours AHEAD of the US anyway, clockwise! They'll get it a day and a half before the US does!)

It's just not fair... :(

:p

Ha. Now maybe some people have a reason to visit these countries. :)

Nah...everyone knows Belgium waffles.
There may be waffles to be found in Brussels, sirrah, but Star Trek will be seen in Belgium, France and the French-speaking parts of Switzerland before anywhere else, according to this list.

In those countries, new movies are released on a Wednesday. Japan will be one of the first countries to screen it.
Japan won't see it until June 6, as things stand now.

Since the US MAKES the movies, we should get them first.

US Box Office dollars fund the damn things.

Intl. money is a secondary thought.

^^
What the hell did you specifically do for the movie? What a stupid argument...

And international revenue matters greatly.

Marketing strategies are the subject of much research. Obviously, one of the reasons ST movies' international box office hasn't been as high as it needs to be for this movie (to break even), they are aiming for almost-simultaneous world release. This strategy worked for things like "Star Wars Episode I", plus II and III, and "Superman Returns". And even relatively smaller-budget SPFX films like "Cloverfield".

The good international word of mouth, made possible by the International Date Line (and online reviews), might also cause the US expectations to rise to fever pitch. All those undecideds.

Recall that "Nemesis" flopped in the US, but did quite well internationally when it was released two and three weeks after the US. Despite the wave of US negativity and apathy towards that film.

That is the most stupidest thing I have seen on the board in a while. So make the rest of the world wait several days just because America opens on a Friday, when in other countries they open on either a Thursday or Wednesday even. Pointless.:rolleyes:

:p

i am taking care of australia by training the koalas to attack the power supply to the theatres and the kangeroos to attack the people delivering the film.

:p

This means - being in New Zealand - I'll have first dibs at spoiling the lot of ya! Kewl.

Nemeshit is still regarded as the nail in the coffin for TNG. So you're just proving that if Americans reject Star Trek, then that's a catastrophe that spells its death knell.

But seriously: who the fuck could like that movie?

No, I meant that enough international fans went to see "Nemesis" for themselves (several weeks after its dismal US opening weekend), and that it wasn't an embarrassing international opening weekend flop.

Paramount must be hoping that opening ST XI earlier internationally that domestically means that no one outside the US will be turned off by negative US reviews.

Note that "Nemesis" on single-disk DVD won its week on first-release in the US. So although US fans apparently boycotted the movie in cinemas, they still ran out to buy the DVD at their earliest oportunity. ;)
