It's May 19th, 1999...

IMO, the PT is so close to being incredible. As is, I still enjoy it very much. If I could be Emperor for a day, though, I would make the following changes:

* TPM - Cut back on the Jar-Jar antics (and poo jokes, Jesus). Also, and this applies throughout the PT, change the sounds of the droids - the cute robot-talk and sounds they make rob the Trade Federation and separatists of any menace. Frankly, if every time a droid got sliced it made an agonized human-like wail, it would have changed the whole tone of the movie and PT for the better.

* AOTC - the love story is obviously central, but it only half-works. Anakin was ok - he should be obsessed and possessive, although the dialog was still cringeworthy. But Padme almost completely fails to be convincing that she falls in love with Anakin, until the end. That really hurts the story.

I would also have made it a little less obvious that Dooku was in league with Sidious. As it is, I still love the penultimate shot where they meet and you realize they're pulling the strings for both sides. :bolian:

* ROTS - I disliked Grievous intensely, a complete waste of time. Otherwise, the film is very good, although Ian MacDirmid fighting with the lightsaber looked pretty bad, unlike the great head-replacement shots they did with Christopher Lee.

Having watched them all recently, I like TPM more than I used to, because Qui-Gon is very cool, and it has the best music overall; I think most of the music in the key scenes of AOTC and ROTS comes from TPM. The one-on-one with Obi-Wan and Darth Maul also rocks, except unfortunately for him leaping out of the pit while Maul stands there for 5 seconds doing nothing. Ewan McGregor is also good in AOTC and great in ROTS.
