It's a PG-13 Rating, and Bridge panoramas are online...

"More than brief nudity will require at least a PG-13 rating,
but such nudity in a PG-13 rated motion picture
generally will not be sexually oriented."

Heaven forbid sexuality be shown to children!

Except as seen in Austin Powers and extreme suggestiveness.

"generally not realistic and extreme or persistent"...

Right--whatever that means.

"single use of one of the harsher sexually-derived words....requires at least a PG-13 rating. More than one ....requires an R rating".

Talk about ass backwards. Aren't children taught about sticks and stones?

The only Starfleet bridge design to incorporate a controversial "giant sucking turbine" ceiling ultimately responsible for the deaths of 34 crewpeople.

As Leonard McCoy put it, "just who in the fuck thought that was a good idea, anyway?!"

Just think if he had done that in the modern age it might have been one of those spinning rims and it would have been potentially deadly.:)

Has anyone actually capped any of the panel closeups or the chair close up? I dl'd the file in the other thread and the panorama stills, but none of them had the close ups.

I really don't see how anyone can even begin to stomach the look of this bridge... it's just so f-ing ridiculous...

At least when nuBSG redid the Galactica's CIC, it was made to look like a real true-to-life military command center.
And Galactica got canceled, whimpering out like a lifeless husk. Star Trek is getting new exciting life. Terrible choice for comparison too.

Thanks for posting those. :) It's fun to read about people who are able to look at ordinary things from a slightly different perspective than the rest of us do, or to draw inspiration by separating those things from their ordinary context.

Did you look at these? I think all of the close-up details are there, with the possible exception of the red alert mode on the viewscreen. I don't think there was a chair close-up, other than the one you get by scroll-zooming in.

Well, not for nothing, the Air Force has gone to Trek to consult with production for their own Command Centers based on the Enterprise bridge(s).

There's nothing that's really dramatically different between the old bridges and this new one except for aesthetics. Functionally, they're the same.

The funniest line so far is:

Everyone knows that you need no more than 6 people to man the stations on a bridge of a starship.

There's a big difference between being a hater (and there are a ton of them around here) and just being critical because it doesn't appeal to you.

Actually, there are very few people in this forum that fit your description, so your oversimplifications are either based on your experiences elsewhere or are flat out wrong.

It's fun to watch "the haters" define the "the cheerleaders," and then watch "the cheerleaders" use that exact same definition (reversing the labels first, of course) to define "the haters" (and somehow never realize that they have done so).

It usually boils down to one person describing how irritating the people of the other side of the fence are, all the while becoming more irritating in the process (and then patting himself on the back for having done so).

For the most part, individuals are: excited about the film, relatively neutral, cautiously optimistic, outright hostile, or just can't be bothered.

The rest is just those same irritating individuals from above trying to mentally project their opinion as the correct majority, and then demonizing the perceived minority.

All very entertaining, of course. :techman:

Versions of this story date back to "The Making Of Star Trek."

Anyone got a picture of any military command or communications center that incorporates any aspect of the Enterprise bridge which was not seen in such installations previously?

Ah, I suppose they're all top secret.

Except that there are images of all kinds of such installations all over the Internet.

The original story is that some folks came over and looked at the bridge set, and Matt Jefferies furnished them some cross sections - and that was the last he ever heard of it.

In fact, while the cross-sections of the TOS bridge are very nice for photographic purposes - they're all well-angled for camera fill - they don't meet the standards of modern ergonomics at all. Everything is at the wrong height and turned at uncomfortable angles. It just all looks good.

It always shocks me how easily people will trade whatever credibility they might have had for a lackluster cheap shot based on obvious distortion of the truth.

Well, that's only because those same folks, on their way to turn all military command centers into exact replicas of the Enterprise, tripped over Martin Luther King, Jr. on their way out of the building, and those same cross sections blew away into the wind. The folks couldn't see King, of course, because he was on his knees, begging Nichelle Nichols not to leave Star Trek.

Interesting how you conveniently left that part out. ;)

You're a heartless skeptic. You know that, right? :)

I really like the general design of the bridge and its consoles, meaning the buttons and the readout screens. I also really dig the look of the Captain's chair. It's a nice update on a classic design. Nice to see the railings around the perimeter as well. I like the throttles on the navigation panel, and the view screen readout during warp is neato.

My only reservations are those stations on either side of the Captain's chair. They add a bit too much clutter to the area for my tastes. The other thing I'm not fond of are those bright, round lights above the consoles around the perimeter of the bridge.

I look forward to seeing the set "in action" before making a final decision on the design overall. For now, I'm positive about it with reservations.

"Your winnings, sir."

Hey, mine are done for comedy purposes, not because I actually believe them.

Someone close to me who's quite young just discovered that movie, and has been dragging anyone who'd sit still in to watch it, repeatedly. I'd forgotten just what a marvel it really is.

XM uses a "Captain's Chair".
