It Wasn't Funny, But I Laughed Anyway

I always smirk during The Conscience of the King, when Riley's milk gets spiked. It's just so cheesy.

Then there's Dr. Daystrom getting the Vulcan neck pinch in The Ultimate Computer.

Both are really fine episodes; they just have those—moments.

I confess I giggled during the "performance" scenes of Plato's Stepchildren. Then my grandfather scolded me for laughing at Kirk pretending to be a horse, and I've never laughed since during that episode.

Why did grandad scold you? That scene was hi-larious.

Back in those days, I was 12 years old and my grandfather understood Star Trek better than I did.

Boy, did that change in a hurry!

I knew it wasnt funny but i still chuckled whenever Data would give too much info about something and a crewmember would tell him to shut up.

Too bad no one told Data to shut-the-F-up when he sang at Riker's and Troi's wedding in Nemesis. Man, that whole wedding scene and anything to do with B-4 was atrocious.

ANY scene with Shouting Spock.

I mean, it inspired one of the greatest TrekBBS threads of all time. How can that not be epic? :vulcan:

^ Apparently it's been flat-out deleted. I don't know why that happened, really. The mods must have just thought the thread got too long, and/or personally did not like it. 'Facts about Captain Robau' met a similar fate. :sigh:

I actually like Data singing. Decent song too.

Any time Picard gets all pompous about "we've evolved beyond [basic part of human nature that we will never evolve beyond]" is usually good for a laugh.

Similarly, I found this exchange in Symbiosis to be a hoot, for its sanctimony:

Symbiosis said:
WESLEY: Data, I can understand how this could happen to the Ornarans. What I can't understand is why anyone would voluntarily become dependent on a chemical.
DATA: Voluntary addiction to drugs is a recurrent theme in many cultures.
TASHA: Wesley, no one wants to become dependent. That happens later.
WESLEY: But it does happen. So why do people start?
TASHA: On my home planet, there was so much poverty and violence, that for some the only escape was through drugs.
WESLEY: How can a chemical substance can provide an escape.
TASHA: It doesn't, but it makes you think it does. You have to understand, drugs can make you feel good. They make you feel on top of the world. You're happy, sure of yourself, in control.
WESLEY: But it's artificial.
TASHA: It doesn't feel artificial until the drug wears off. Then you pay the price. Before you know it, you're taking the drug not to feel good, but to keep from feeling bad.
WESLEY: And that's the trap?
TASHA: All you care about is getting your next dosage. Nothing else matters.
WESLEY: I guess I just don't understand.
TASHA: Wesley, I hope you never do.
Which was too bad, really, because all but lost in the preachy drivel was a good message:
You have to understand, drugs can make you feel good.... Before you know it, you're taking the drug not to feel good, but to keep from feeling bad.

The opening moments of "Rightful Heir" are hilarious, especially when Riker finds Worf in his quarters, the latter in a trance with his eyes crossed.

The unintentional funny moments...let's see...Riker walking out of a room with his back towards the camera...Riker having problems with his thinking process/memory in the episode Genesis...Deanna Troi's maybe you should consider serving aboard a transport ship...Picard's temporal psychosis...Picard's finger nails growing at an accelerated rate...Picard with hair...and Data cutting the cake with Troi's head attached....

The intentional moments for me is Data saying to Jenna in the episode In Theory May I get you a drink dear? Excellent choice. I'll join you. Computer, two Calaman sherries. Would you care for some dinner as well? Darling, you remain as aesthetically pleasing as the first day we met. I believe I am the most fortunate sentient in this sector of the galaxy. Now, you relax. Put your feet up and I will take care of everything. Am I not behaving as a solicitous mate? You don't tell me how to behave. You're not my mother. You are not my mother. That is the appropriate response for your statement that I am behaving foolishly..etc. Then there is the episode where Data and Picard are aboard a Klingon ship and Data just stands there while Picard tries to get some sleep. Finally, there's the one good thing that came out of Insurrection... Smooth as an android's bottom, eh, Data?
