The Enterprise from the new movie may be a lot larger than it’s previous incarnation but is it more powerful? Let’s analyze this shall we?
The original Enterprise took some pretty powerful hits such as: Nomad, the Doomsday Machine, ect…

The New Enterprise took a couple hit from the Narada and lost the CMO and a med bay, thank god McCoy was on the bridge. When taking a direct hit I know the shields were up but saw no evidence there were there.

What do you all think? Is the new Enterprise more powerful than the original?

Yeah, I think it's a lot more powerful. The old Enterprise probably would of been one shot even with shields up. The new E is more powerful because it was launched at a later date than the original, and was probably designed more with fighting in mind than exploration after the Kelvin encounter

Yes, in effect of seeing the Narada's capabilities... visually, you see that the designs were altered. In a way that this enterprise uses crude, unrefined 24th century tech. And with scotty having transwarp transport. It is more capable than a Prime variant of the Constitution.

I believe the writers said that many of the changes in technology came from scans of the Narada by the survivors of the Kelvin.
