It kind of feels like Trek fans get gouged.

I will anecdotally add that the question I've gotten at table most frequently since the Prey trilogy came out was whether there was a trade paperback compendium, so there must be a constituency for them.
That feels to me like it's less "we think TPBs are classier" and more "we'd like to pick up the complete trilogy for the price of two".

And I'd be happy for people to have that chance -- as stated above, the more options, the better. (Logistically, of course, it's easier for me to direct people to a single item. Three links barely fit in a tweet!)

The only box set of Trek books that I've seen (and I've got it in my collection) was for Invasion, but it looks like Distican here in Canada (who are now Simon & Schuster Canada) handled the printing of the box (as the box has a Distican price sticker on it) and then shoved excess copies of the books into it. I don't know if it was ever in first-hand bookstores, or if it was only available through Distican, as I found my copy in a used book store.

There's a box set at my local used bookstore -- I think it's for the 1980s film adaptations. I should take a closer look.

In the '80's and '90's, Pocket regularly put out box sets of Trek books, usually in the early fall for holiday gifting (just as Bantam and Ballantine had done in the '70's).

It's not much of a thing anymore, but it was a big deal back in the day.

Also available in a boxed set was William Rotsler's "Star Trek II Biographies", "Star Trek II Short Stories" and the "Plot-Your-Own Adventure: Distress Call".
