I have sympathy with the children. However, the parents COUNT ON US having sympathy and letting them stay. No school and no job = much less of a draw for them to come here.
And
So at least one crime per illegal (I'll put that on the parents not the kids) - the first one being coming into the country illegally. The second one, not *all* do, but enough do.
So they're not hardened criminals (the minority of criminals and M13 or whatever they're called aside; I'm assuming there is always a minority of any group that will become criminal) but they're still stealing. It costs plenty of money to educate illegals. Not only do they take up seats in the classroom requiring more teachers/classes, but a good many require ESOL classes. They're not entitled to that any more than someone is entitled to come into my house and choose what they want to have because they're poorer than I.
I'm all for legal immigration but hate those who cheat, lie and break the law to get here. And talk to some legal immigrants (as I did in S. Florida). It pisses them off that people jump the line/overstay the visas, whatever to get here. Plus - when there are larger concentrations of them, they tend to depress the wages in various professions. Saw a lot of that in S. Florida.
We need to get a handle on our borders (and travel visas). No, we don't need a big honking wall. Not that that's a horrible idea (ask Israel about that), but take away the draw and the supply will drop. No jobs, no school = much less pulling this crap. They can sign up and come the right way.
I'm also for simplifying the immigration system. This does NOT mean letting in every Tom, Dick and Harry with a sob story, but making the process more effective. As it stands, it's not. But this doesn't mean I think everyone needs to come in. I don't. Immigration is supposed to benefit a country first, not benefit anyone who feels they should get in. No other country is stupid enough to do that. Hell, even Mexico is mighty fussy about who comes up from countries south of them. Canada, for all it's tsk-tsking of us, also has more stringent rules than we do.
The anchor baby problem is much different in that it's hard to change that law. So we're stuck with well-heeled mamas-to-be coming in on a travel visa from China (at a good price) and having their babies here where they automatically become American. They're not alone, we also get that from south of the border. I think it's wrong to let aliens come to our country and have their babies who are automatically entitled to American bennies. And since we're moronic bleeding heart liberals, of COURSE if the BABY gets to stay because he/she is automatically American, and so can mommy and daddy because heartstring FEEWINGS.
Many undocumented immigrants use false social security numbers (or legit ones that were taken from someone who is deceased)
And
besides the undocumented part, illegal immigrants actually commit much fewer other crimes per capita than citizens do
