I think it's strange how much the writers apparently like the Borg.
They're both Indo-European languages with geographic roots in the Mediterranean. Though they both split off from Early Pro-Indo-European early on. A lot of PIE languages are similar though. *H₂ster (PIE) ( Star (English) Stella (Latin) Aster (Greek) Stā̆rǝm (Iranian)Per Trek lore, the Greek gods were real and aliens.
I'm not a linguist, so I have no idea whether there are common roots of the Greek and Latin languages, but I've always wondered if (along with the Preservers) that explains why Starfleet seems to run into aliens with familiar mythical names that use aspects of human language.
The common roots were spread by the Greek gods as they traveled across the galaxy, and that's why you have aliens that call themselves Vulcans, Romulans, etc.
