I see someone in my life as being very intelligent and capable of pretty much anything as long as she puts her mind to it.
Yes she is still a bit young but she just follows the crowd blindly. I only ask her to look and think outside the box. She got angry when I asked this of her. I was wondering is it wrong for me to ask that she just look and think and research and use the intelligence that I know she has?

She is very smart and only uses a small fraction of what she is capable of. She follows the crowd and I don't want to forcefully challenge her I want her to realize her potential and ask questions and change herself. Is this wrong?

It might not have been incorrect, but it was tactless and condescending.

I don't know...is it wrong for me to point out that your sig makes no sense to me? I don't have the time to parse it right now to explain all of the problems, but it looks like it's been run through an automatic translator a few times.

I know a lot of people of "average" intelligence who still can write intelligible sentences, so maybe not thinking "outside the box" isn't such a bad thing.

It's wrong when the person who's asking can't even put their request in the form of a coherent sentence despite claiming intellectual superiority. Even without that, it's condescending.

Plus, it's been on rare occasion where I've heard or read someone accusing others of being sheeple just following the crowd where that person wasn't either being a first class jerk or saying something really offensive. That might not be the case here, but I'm just relaying my experience.

Plus, you left out a lot of information. Are those people she's with bad people, dealing with drugs or bar hopping every night?

She may be highly intelligent and capable of obtaining 10 doctorate degrees, but she might be better off hanging out with "average" people. She may find conversations with those as "scholarly" or "intelligent" as she is boring or at least not her cup of tea, especially if she has hobbies that other "intelligent" people around her don't share. There's nothing wrong with that and she wouldn't be the first.

^ I'll second that. For God's sake, you are hardly in a position to criticize someone else, asking them to change their behavior because you think it reflects poorly on their intelligence, when you can't even construct a simple sentence.

Under normal circumstances, I'd agree. But when the OP has made previous complaints about people not speaking proper English and is currently condescendingly lecturing someone about not living up to their intelligence level, I think it's fair game.

Everyone makes spelling and grammar mistakes from time to time. How does a sig questioning whether someone's living up to their intelligence not warrant at least a proofreading or two before clicking submit? That's just laziness.

If it was just minor issues I wouldn't care, but when you practically need an Enigma machine to decipher the content, it becomes a problem.

This has been very helpful. I actaully got to thinking myself today after I posted this.
