Is This Video Canon??

Ha -- I remember that from its original airing. Not bad for this sort of thing; I actually laughed at "Hoo-pye".

That's not as horrible as the Riker schtick. I wonder how much it cost to get that whole thing together. Hell I'm surprised Paramount let them do the whole thing.

Pretty nice! Seems like a lost episode of TNG to me, although I would best fit it within "Time's Arrow" somehow.

Canon! :)

I don't think these spots are any more canon than the Flintstones Winston Cigarette commercials. :)

Would it have been that big a deal when the show was in active production? They probably just shot it alongside whatever episode they were working on at the time.

It's still surprising though. I can understand the skit for Comic Relief. That's a charitable contribution. But the Riker infomercial is just a plain sell-out. That one always bothered me.

What is your ethical opinion of this? To be fair to Riker, selling out predates TNG.

Incidentally, the ad I just linked is also 100% canon. :vulcan:

It's not an ethical issue, simply my personal opinion. I've never been particularly fond of selling out.

How about Batman using OnStar? Yeah, let's put a commercial device in the Batmobile that lets people he doesn't know track it back to the Batcave via satellite...that's a great idea.

Yeah, that's not cool.

But Diet Coke? That is such a Batman drink. I should know, I drink it. That's exactly one thing I have in common with Bruce Wayne.

To keep this kinda-sorta Trek related: "Miri". Episode has cars of certain popular Earth brands in the background. Gave TOS a lot of money that made some more expensive episodes possible. Opinions?

^If that's true, it's subtle enough. Watching it years later, I never realized they were plugging cars.
