Is this the new companion?

Bionic Woman was a god-awful show but it was hardly her fault. All but the most exceptional actors (and even then they're usually Shakespearean-trained stage actors first and foremost) can take bad writing and bad directing and make it into something great. If you expect everyone to have that expertise, you have only yourself to blame for being constantly disapointed.

That said, I'm getting tired of the Doctor's companion always being a young, attractive woman. I was really hoping Moffatt would shy away from that nonsense and go with something really interesting. But c'est la vie, I guess.

I dunno. Am I missing something here? Do we know that she's going to be killed off at the end of the special?

Except for the last one.

Doctor Who is always going to have male and female leads. In it's 45 years history there's been a grand total of ONE story where he's travelled solely with a male companion. And in the past 34 years there's only been TWO male companions; one of whom didn't last very long and didn't do much while he was there. And the other was bloody Adric.

We do know that the Specials will each have their own one-off temporary companions. The second one will have a bloke in the role and the third (Tennant's last two episodes) a woman in her 50s/60s.

Unless we want to have another go on the "everything RTD says is a lie" machine.

We don't know anything about the character's fate, and we certainly don't know if she'll be around for Moffat's tenure or, indeed, what kind of companion he has in mind.

Seems a little premature to be bemoaning a choice he has not yet made. :vulcan:

I can't agree, the less we know the better when decrying the future of this or any show.

I want to go on record as being firmly against informed decisions. :p

<shrugs> I don't see anything uninformed about bemoaning a companion who's been all but announced. You're the ones making the assumpation that she's going to be killed off/removed from the show before Moffatt officially takes the helm, not me.

May as well make the same assumption about the 11th Doctor, no?

That means I have to like it? I wasn't aware of that "fact" either.

Russell T Davies has clearly indicated that each special is going to have a one-off "companion" character. And as has been said, it seems highly doubtful that a Steven Moffatt companion would be introduced in a Russell T Davies episode.

What's uninformed is that you're apparently attributing her casting to Moffat (who is not in charge until season 5) and appear to be operating under the assumption that she will be around when he takes over.

I said nothing of the sort. And considering RTD has hinted that each special will feature different companions, it wouldn't be an unreasonable assumption to make.

What, that he'll be killed off in Planet of the Dead? Well, that would be barmy.

Where was it reported that the second one will have a male lead?

He said they wouldn't all be female
Actually, all he said was "it won't always be a young girl." Which could just be a reference to the older woman next Christmas and doesn't require a male companion, though I wouldn't rule it out.

If you look at the thread for Planet Of The Dead you'll see that she is apparently appearing in that Special which (accusations of lies on behalf of both the current and upcoming Producers aside) rules her out as the full-time companion for Series 5.

shhhh don't tell catherine tate (donna). she never got that message. >_>

Do people really not see the difference between RTD bringing back a companion he created and Moffat being stuck with a companion created by his predecessor? The fact that there's a vague precedent is just pointless. You heard it here first: Bonnie Langford could be the next companion! Hey, they've done it before...

Ugh, I hope that rumor isn't true. I can't stand Michelle Ryan and she was by far the weakest link in the otherwise excellent Jekyll. If she's just in one special, I can tolerate it, but not if she's the series 5 companion.

EMH! Good to see you again... :techman:

Yes shes on the front page of the BBC Doctor Who website.

So in for one special at least.

I actually liked The Bionic Woman at least for the first half of the series.
I hadnt spotted that it was her in Merlin.
