A friend of mine, who works as a supervisor, had taken this photo of contract workers who were sleeping when they were supposed to be working. When he viewed the photo on his smartphone, he saw something behind the sleeping workers. According to him, he had not seen anything behind the workers when taking the photo.

I am not sure about the photo. The suspicious image is right behind the ladder which is behind the sleeping workers.

Ironic, 'nothing there' being the answer anyway.

Yeah, if it's a "ghost", it's going to be a hoax. I just wanted to give him the chance to post it before evaluating it, and THEN debunking it. :p ;)

You always were a tease.

I try. :D

As for the photo, after seeing it, I can honestly say that I'm not seeing much of anything. Is this like a UFO sighting, where everything is blurry and non-descript?

No, I see that, what I'm saying is that there's nothing defining about it that would cause anyone to question anything about it's purported existence. Your friend's imagination may just be a little too active.

There are two reasonable explanations that I can give right off the bat:

1) The object was there and your friend just missed it. It's quite common to notice things in photos one doesn't notice in the moment because a photo is a static image, allowing the brain time to process everything in the picture.

2) It's a manipulated image, which is very easy, and very possible to do. Because of the blurry and poor quality of the image, making a fake image and embedding it becomes even easier, and honestly, for a cell phone image, it's of absurdly poor quality, which suggests tampering as well.

I still don't get what I'm supposed to be seeing other than a giant phallus pointing the way.

I don't quite get it as well. But it more or less correspond to a figure. You can see an arm and a leg and dark hair. And it is naked and hence the color.

I am not sure about the photo myself. That is why i wanted a second opinion.

Are we supposed to be seeing a person in the background? I can kind of get a figure if I squint. Looks like a simple case of pareidolia. I was already skeptical just reading your post, without even looking at the picture, and here's why:
According to him, he had not seen anything behind the workers when taking the photo.

That pretty much tells you right there that the phenomenon is going to be an artifact of photography, either what we have in this case, which is an artifact of converting 3D into 2D in a very blurry way, and then letting natural human pattern-seeking take over, or something like flash artifacts, which are what cause "ghost orbs" and streaks of light in pictures.

Oh, I think I see it now.

The only hoax here is that your friend got you to post a grainy picture of some piece of equipment on a wall in a warehouse and seriously question whether it was a ghost or not.
