> Is there any value in doing reviews of Pocket Book ST books?

I have almost compiled a full collection of Star Trek TNG Pocket Book series. I currently haven't read most of them, but have read quite a few.

Having searched online, I could find no repository of book reviews. Do you think that someone would want to read reviews of those old books? In any form, be it text, audio or video.

There are reviews on Amazon and on Goodreads, I like to read reviews for ideas on the next ST book that I think will be interesting, or I will read the reviews to compare with my own reaction.

I also write a little about the books I'm reading, but they are meant to be reflections more than reviews; I deliberately avoid rating them with a number. The writing helps me process my own thoughts on what I read, but I post on fan forums to share my perspective.

I agree with Desert Kris, there are frequently reviews on Amazon. I mean you have to take them with a grain of salt because what you like and what others like may be completely different. But still, you may get a feel for a book.

You may even find some here, though with older books it is hit or miss. When I read an older book I'll usually add an 'informal' review, basically some of my own ramblings about my experience with the book. But I don't really make it a formal review like you see of newer books since it's usually a book that's from 20 to 30 years ago.

Yes, but if I would make those reviews interesting and put them into one place, do you think there is any value in that? Or the books I am reading are just way too old?

I've been running a Trek Lit review site for a few years now, at www.treklit.com. I'm currently up to 250 reviews, and I'd love to review every Star Trek novel ever (but that is a very far-off goal). It started mostly as a way for me to keep track of the books I've read and my thoughts on them for my own purposes, but it has evolved to have a bit of a readership and has led to different things such as my co-hosting a podcast about Trek Lit.

There is always room for new perspectives on anything! If you have a passion for something, you will find an audience. I love looking up reviews others have done of Star Trek novels. I'd say go for it!

Yeah I certainly have no misconceptions about the fact that my website is of interest to a very small number of people. But it’s my interest in making and maintaining it that is of primary concern to me. I’m just in it for the fun!

If that’s your point of view too, then go for it regardless!

I think Deep Space Spines shows there's definitely potential in new takes on old books.

Thanks for post that! There's some really interesting ratings for some of those books, I'm surprised at some of them but it great to see alternative perspectives. I've been scrambling through those reviews at a near frantic pace the last couple of days, which gives a clear answer to the OP question. It's a pretty helpful resource for the books I've selected to read (I did have to be careful about looking away from the story points he lays out). Good value.

I have to give your site a shoutout, BTW. It's has been helpful for finding books beyond the initial scope of the books I'm currently reading through. I had already pinned down Intellivore as a follow-up to The Romulan Way/Rihannsu material, and was really surprised and happy to discover another case with Possession as a follow up to one of Dillard's TOS novels; Intellivore and Possession will go great with a bunch of other novels to transition out of a TOS-only phase.
