Is there a way to Block Unwanted Numbers on the Phone?

I've been getting a call from an unknown number a lot the last few days and would like to block them if I can. The number is coming from Utah and it's something like 801-758-9017. Is there a way to stop this from happening (Like programming the Cell) or are they going to keep calling me for no reason.

My phone has a "Block Caller" option, but it doesn't actually do anything. The number still comes through.

It might help if you post what type of phone it is? I know on mine (LG ENV) that you can't block a specific number but you can say you will only accept calls from people in your contact list. I think services like Google Voice might also have ways to help screen calls.

It's an Android HTC Incredible. With these smartphones there should be a way to block unwanted numbers. The technology I would think is there.

It's all going to depend on your carrier and what they allow and disallow. When I worked for Sprint, the only reliable way to block numbers was to do it within the network itself, so you'd have to call up and ask them. Sadly, at the time I worked for them, we'd only do it with a court order.

Sucks for the consumer, but it was greatly appreciated as an employee. First, it was a pain in the ass to do, and secondly can you imagine blocking numbers on demand for 100,000,000 customers? It would get pretty crazy.

Actually, the national do not call thing seems to work.

I kept getting automated calls from 2 numbers (same place). Since I went thru the DNC registry, I haven't gotten a single call from either number.

And DeafPoet is right about the carriers. T-Mobile won't block numbers at all, but I think AT&T (who now owns T-Mobile) says they do.

You can always check on http://whocallsme.com/ to see if this is a problem number for others

the DNC registry also works UNLESS someone had your number previously and did business with the number contacting you, however if you get a live person and tell them to remove you they will AFAIK the only other way is to contact your wireless carrier and ask about a call block...

Look up a program called Sanity on the Android Market. I believe blocking certain numbers is one of its features.

I once downloaded an application for an (old) Windows Phone that let me block a specific number. I think it was called Call Firewall, or something like that. Freeware, or shareware, I think, too. I suspect there must be similar things around in this day and age for new phones.

SenseUI on the Incredible should have this feature built in. If you make a contact with that number, you should be able to route it straight to voicemail in the options for the contact. I just have one "master" contact for all the junk calls that I get on occasion with all the numbers attached to it.

I go into Settings, then "Call", then "Call Reject". I have an LG (yes, I know... ).

It's how I managed to block my stalker "girlfriend" last year, blocked stupid online universities like Pheonix and Capella that want me to pay $2,000 for a course (if I could afford to spend $24,000 on a Master's over the span of 18 months, then why would I even need one?!), and it's how I block random other numbers calling for uknown reasons.

I just ignore phone numbers I don't recognize. What difference does it make anyway? Incoming calls to you are billed to the caller, not to you, so it's not like it's a big deal.
