Is the mafia on the rise in Italy?

Honestly, I seem to be hearing about the Camorra more and more recently. But, then again, I have been paying more attention to them. In times of adversity, I'd expect organized crime to gain influence. But at one time it seemed like the Italian government was bragging about making progress against the mafia. Now, I'm not so sure.

I have no idea, but it makes sense. Money is tight and people need to get a loan. The banks won't give it to them, so they get desperate and go to whatever source they can get the money from.

Alidar, sense you are a moderator could you please explain the mistake I made? So far I've done pretty good not getting in trouble (now that I know what hot linking is) so I would like to know how to avoid this in the future?

You should see an italian movie called "Gamorra" that is based on the real life account on an ex-gangster. It is a bit crazy.

I've been meaning to see it. It's on my netflix list, but I don't think it's coming out any time soon.

There have been a couple of articles in the New York Times that says the same is true over here in the States. It's a great time to get into the mob business, guys!

Pink Floyd would probably say "yes". I remember seeing multiple interviews about their "Pulse" tour, I think it was back in '95, when they did a gig on a barge in Venice. They were commenting on how the mob-run unions constantly changed the conditions of their original agreements and contracts to extort more money from the band. When they didn't comply, they sent other barges out on the river to block the view of the group, honk their port horns loudly and kill power to the amps and lights during the concert.
