Was the two parter(516 and 517)the end for the season?

I am just wondering because 17 episodes seems strange for a US tv season which is usually an even number like 22, 24 or 26.

otherwise, yep, that's it! it was the concession the writers got when they wanted to end with season 5. The network asked for more seasons, but the writers said they had a finite number of stories. Hence a supplemental season, only shorter.

That is the end of the season. Seasons 4, 5, and 6 were originally meant to be 16 episodes each, but when the writer's strike shortened season 4, some extra episodes were added on to the remaining seasons to make up for it. Next season will also be 17 episodes long.

The eighteenth episode is going to air in the summer, but ABC isn't going to announce WHEN it airs in advance! The bastards are trying to make us watch their channel constantly the entire summer just so we don't miss this one episode. And naturally this episode a) will never be released on DVD, b) has a special coding signal so you can't tape/TIVO it, and c) will answer some huge questions about the show! I'm so pissed.

I actually just wanted to know if that was actually the end of the season, so I could burn it off as a full season.
