Is Starfleet running breweries on their starships?

Either there’s a lot a deuterium, or Starflleet is running a brewery on the Enterprise. Maybe in the Abramsverse Starfleet is making booze to pay it’s way. I think it's Starfleet aile or Starfleet brandy.

I loved the rest of the ship - but the Brewery could have been a wee bit less obviously not a spaceship. Or even a regular ship.

I liked the idea of having huge water tanks on the "E" it would be used for cooling and at the same time it would be used for deuterium for the warp cores. Even to being used for life support, broken down to produce oxygen for life support to hydrogen to power thrusters.

maybe they needed all that water to take showers and for drinking.

I dont think there are replicators in TOS, but that could be stretching it.

But i wouldnt drink the water that came out of those tubes if deuterium was running through them.

You don't think they'd get in that thing sober?

Why was there that giant blender thing in the water system?

Also, why did the drill have random flame bursts periodically?

I take it you've never designed a pump for a wastewater system before. Trust me, they use grinders.

I think it makes sense to have large parts of the ship for water reclamation and other necessary functions like that. Although engineering looked way too huge, like a cross between a warehouse and a water treatment plant.

Deuterium IS some sort of hydrogen, so it'd make sense having lots of water to procure it...

Maybe...?
But ... now that ENT is the only series unaffected by Star Trek, and thus it is now uncontradicted by anything in the other series, we now know that deuterium is mined, not extracted from water. :wtf:

o ... kay ... ;)

Maybe they "mine" it from the water? Or perhaps they devised a new process?

I've decided that the Enterprise in my head runs on deuterium extracted from heavy water and that the various tanks and pipes are part of the extraction process. The 'waste' O2 is then used in the environmental systems.

I didn't see any turds floating aorund in the water so I think grinders were unnecessary.

The brewery is to supply the tiki bar (later to become 10 Forward) with plenty of beer. It's right next to the Starbucks.
