Title: Is "Star Trek" Too Much Like "Star Trek: Generations"?
Star Trek:Generations was widely heralded and hyped as the "passing of the torch" to a new generation of heros.
<snip>
Have the writer, producers, and director, in their zeal to do something "new" and to "reinvigorate" the franchise put stuff into the new movie that serves to depress and irritate the fan base?
Dayton, your thread title and your opening post don't really match up, for one.
No.
Everyone has been whining for the longest of times how Trek writers have no balls, take no chances and how the reset button has been used to death in Trek.
Well here you go. No reset buttons and consequences of the highest importance.
And the fan base in neither irritated nor depressed. Check the BBS polls and other reviews available in various sites.
Taking chances with the characters is one thing. Having someone do something unexpected or what have you.
Pulling the franchise's history out at the roots is something entirely different.
Your response here is dismissive, unsupported and nearly a non-sequitur.
Saw it for the second time earlier. Out of the 11 people I saw it with, 9 were non trekkies, and those 2 trekkies, one was a hardcore love it all fan like me and the other was a girl
First up, 9 non Trekkies
loved it.
Girl Trekkie
loved it.
Trekkie Trekkie liked it, hates some things about it and has to see it again to pass judgment.
So, i'd say 10/11 aient bad for audience satisfaction
Probably simply a case of likeminded people.
Dismissive, unsupported and mildly insulting.
What same thing have I been saying?
Thread #1- topic- What will be the reaction if the movie disappoints at the Box Office?
Thread #2- topic- Why didn't they more closely copy the look of the Original Series?
Threat #3- topic- Is the new movie too much like Generations?
They could just as easily be read:
Thread #1 - topic - They're doing it wrong. Don't touch my Trek.
Thread #2 - topic - They're doing it wrong. Don't touch my Trek.
Thread #3 - topic - They're doing it wrong. Don't touch my Trek.
That's what I'm seeing, anyway. They're just three different versions of the same thing, and this thread is the thinnest of the three, amounting to little more than chain-yanking. Now, if you're really interested in conducting a serious discussion of similarities between this movie and Generations, then I'd suggest the movies forum would be the place for it, properly flagged for spoilers, of course.
For right now in this forum, however, I'd prefer to see discussions of the J.J. Abrams movie which is in theaters now (which is the purpose of this forum), not a flurry of threads about the movie you think they
should have made or that
you would have made, which is the sense I'm getting from the threads you've started yesterday and today.
This thread will remain closed. Do be sure your others have more substance and relevance to the current movie, and refrain from the sort of things I've pointed out above here.
