Is SpikeTV ditching us?

I posted this here instead of General TV and Media, for the fact the subject is more about Star Trek in general. But, currently SpikeTV is going to show all Star Wars films, does that mean they are going to give up on us Trek fans and move toward a sci-fi series that is utterly unwatchable? I tried watching The Phantom Menace on Spike last night and I forgot how much I don't like Star Wars. (Nothing against to those who do :-) )

ahh c'mon, the pod race was pretty cool. They lost me when the 8-year old "accidentely" blew up the doid control station, but whatever.

But if spike is leaving trek behind, it's because it's a niche of a niche. Put Trek and Wars head to head and Wars wins. CSI:RANDOM CITY pretty much kicks the ass of any scifi out there right now. I wouldn't blame them at all.

This is what scifi fandom looks like

General SCIFI fans are the RED
TrekFans are the BLUE.

We're a smallish subset of all science fiction fans. You'd get more money by going for the general scifi audience then the Trek audience. Just pointy eared logic, but really the smart thing is to go for the bigger audience.

when is this happening? I wanna catch up on the series w/o having to pay the big bucks.

How on Earth (or any other planet) could CSI be compared to science fiction????

I just noticed Spike is going to have an additional showing of Voyager each day next week at 9AM EST. Sometimes the same episode will be repeated in the afternoon; other times it will be a different episode. They are also showing DS9 at 2AM EST next week. They've done this off and on in the past and they are doing it again at least next Monday and Tuesday night. I didn't check further.

darkshadow001, who knows what they plan to do in the long run, but at least next week, Spike will be showing more Trek, not less.

They did that all last week too. :vulcan:

I do think that Trek is approaching the end of its run on SPIKE TV, and I think it's just simply good business sense on the network's part to gradually phase it out. CSI just dominates in almost every regard that's important to SPIKE right now, IMO.

em.. all of the Star wars films are @ 14 hours in total? that would be a day and a bit?

How would you phase out hundreds of hours of TV for 6 films?

Why would thier choice of eight o'clock weekend movies be any indication of thier move from airing Star Trek? If anything, I would look at the increasing episodes of totally Outragous Videos and MXC as more of a culprit. Sorry, but I have to call shenanigans on your thinly vailed excuse to bash, and poorly attempted effort to pin the blame on Star Wars. They aired the Godfather crime dramas not too long ago, that didn't seem to affect the CSI schedule in any way.

^ Well
1.) They have quit showing TNG.
2.) DS9 has been moved to late, late nights three times a week after jumping around.
3.) VOY has been pretty steady, but this week is pretty strange
4.) They no longer show the films

I imagine that they get reliable if not stupendous ratings in a good demographic from Trek shows, so I doubt they will be making any big changes.

^^ Yep. Kind of where I was getting at too :)

Everyone has stopped showing TNG. G4 has stopped showing TNG. I wonder if it just got played to death and is no longer a ratings draw.

It may also have been withdrawn by Paramount. We don't know. If they are thinking about doing a "ground up" remaster of TNG in HD, it would be good to give it a rest first.

DS9 has always been an iffy proposition. It never sold well after its first run. Who knows how well it did for Spike? We like DS9 on this board but I'm not sure the general public, which is Spike's audience, does, too.

Voyager has been and continues to be shown steadily.

So really, the question is why not air the movies and that is a good one.

You wouldn't. Star Wars isn't replacing Star Trek on SPIKE TV.

Reality shows are.
